Intake whistles

Post by Xander_X »

So I have a minor vacuum leak I think. I hear this high pitched whistle coming from the engine bay around the intake area sometimes. It's not that loud as it bothers me. But being a mechanic ... it bothers me. It also doesn't seem to be effecting performance or idle at all. This is my first Subaru, I was wondering if there is anything that typically leaks on these? I might just buy an intake from the scrapyard, port and polish it, replace all the hoses and gaskets and call it a day.

I have a whistle that appears after startup and idle down and slow driving. It goes away with speed and after it's warmed up. I have no vacuum leaks that I'm aware of (very few vacuum hoses on these cars), but it sounds like it's coming from the IAC.

I had a whistle on acceleration that I couldn't figure out. No vacuum leaks or issues. Turns out it was the muffler. Replaced the muffler and no more problems.

I can't say that's the same issue as you guys, but something to think about. I ended up finding it when I had a friend stand outside the car and listen while I revved it up.
