Did you install the brakes on the correct side? Easy way to tell - what way is the bleeder pointing, up or down?

Does it get hard and then "go away"? Or does it never pump up?

If you never get a firm pedal, then it may still be air in the system. It could also be something flexing, like lines, pads, brakets, etc. Make sure everything is straight, lined up and tight.

If you do get a firm pedal and then it softens up, it can really only be either a leak (that you woulde eventually see) or a bad master cylinder. Are you losing fluid after repeated pumps?

Bleeders are always on the top of the caliper.

When I did my 4pot/2pot conversion I didn't think the brakes felt that good either. They DID get to the point of not going to the floor, but they felt mushy. Like there was still air in the system.

I used the ATE blue fluid so I could tell when the old stuff was flushed out. I used the hand-pump vaccuum bleeder kits and sucked it out for a long time. I was confident there was no air in the system, but I still didn't like the feel.

I very cautiously took it out for a spin and the car stopped fine. Still felt a little off, but stopped fine. Just for reassurance, took it to a local garage and asked them to bleed the brakes. They used the 'one guy on the pedal-one guy open the bleeder' method. They said they got a little more air out, but I'm not convinced....whatever. Brakes felt the same.

As I drove it around more over the next few days, the pads set in and the pedal developed a bit more feedback, but I still felt unhappy with my "upgrade".

BUT.....

A few days later I took my (stock) WRX out. When the Legacy had the stock brakes, the WRX was noticably better. Both in performance and feel. But after a few days with the 4pot/2pots in the Legacy, going back to the WRX was a noticable downgrade! I must have been expecting in my mind this "big improvement" and gotten so focused on the apparently soft pedal, that I didn't realize the overall improvement until I had a back-to-back comparision.

I'm not saying that is the problem you are having, but it's something to keep in mind. If your pedal gets hard and then "bleeds off" to the floor, something is wrong. Mine never went to the floor, just 'felt' mushy.

well it was the rear bleeders were on the bottom and not the top. so note all bleeders go up.
