Damn—a used long block and a rebuild kit would probably be cheaper. I wonder if they get 'seasoned' like the old BMW M10 engines that took to F1 turbocharging better out of junk yard cars than brand new.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

Someone should find out by leaving a block outside and peeing on it every so often. I heard that was also part of the M10 legend.
