Can you just use normal hose clamps? Seems like t-bolt clamps are messy for some reason.

Yup, the t-clamp.
ericem wrote:Can you just use normal hose clamps?
NO!! worm clamps will dig into the soft silicone even more and tear it up. Feel free to try it with your TMIC install and let me know how it's working for you in 20K miles ;)

The silicone for me failed because:
1) I cut it too short and there wasn't enough material for all of the t-clamp to bite into
2) Vibrations / install/removing the clamp many times has eaten away the silicone material since it sits right on the edge/lip.

Anyways, new y-pipe comes tomorrow so we'll see how things go.

Well this time around I ordered a 06-07 Samco TMIC hose, hoping it would work better. WRONG! The angle to the turbo is no good. Now I have to return it and get a the 02-05 kit again. *sigh*

Why does your 02-05 look different? Why did you extend that one side btw? This is what mine looks like, I got it off ebay I can get you a link if you want. Cost me $90 CDN shipped. Including the bpv hose, and the 2.75" one. Great quality stuff I think it's 4 ply and the last layer is thick.

I took some pics of mine the other day, you have to modify it, but it works great. I'll post the pics tonight if I can.

I don't think there is any single solution that would be splice-free. I spliced mine in two spots to work.

ScottyS: Already ordered up the 02-05 Samco hose again. Soon as I get from FedEx, it gets hacked and installed -- hopefully properly and the last time. I realize one could probably hack the 06-07 Samco at that 45* joint, rotate it 180*, extend it and you'd be set... but then it's yet another joint / point of failure. I'll take shots of the 02-05 vs 06-07 Samco hoses once and for all here in the next few days. Until then, I have to drive like granny and not get on any boost; it's boring!

ericem: It seems your ebay hose is slightly longer than the 02-05 Samco hose in the Y legs. This is why mine must be expanded. I also documented this in my guide and website with additional pictures. Have you actually installed the tmic yet? The 90* from the turbo is too short and will need to be extended.

I know that I am just wondering about extending the end that attaches to the inlet of the turbo like you did. Yet it appears I only need to extend the one part with the 90 going to the turbo.

Here's mine. I use the bands from NAPA to hold the places I think would have slippage issues. I use an eBay 5-ply 90* on the turbo.

Unfortunately, after I had put 20k mi on the motor (swapped from another Turbo Legacy) during daily commuting, my brother was borrowing the car and managed to hit a deer and then overheat it, all while I was out working in the field for a week. It now has the sound of a bearing failure in the passenger-side head.

So, I get to put a new motor together, and find a new hood. Yay.

Hopefully able to install the new y-pipe in the next day or two. Finally a comparison of the Samco 02-05 vs 06-07. As others have stated, the 06/07 IS longer in the left leg by ~1" which is good, but its downfall for us, is that the leg from the turbo is angled too much when it needs to be straight for lengthening.

edit: see first post for updated images.

Naw. I did test it on the 07 TMIC and it fit just fine -- just like the 02-05 samco. I just went out and measured the diameter of the silicone chunks I took off the 02-05 samco -- one from the y-leg and another from the 90* bend -- both are the same diameter.

I think one can use silicone hose as a replacement, but still believe transmission hose stands up better to the heat + oil combo.

I needed an exhaust stud simply because the TD05 was missing one. Normal installs won't need them -- unless the threads are stripped out.

I'd also really like to know if that 90 degree elbow will work on the td04 the front of the turbo.

Not sure if this has already been asked or not, but wouldnt it be a little easier just to go FMIC rather than go through all of this?

I have a front mount i plan on using when i put in my 16g, seems like it would be easier, and free up some space up there.

If you can weld, have a good grinder/cutter for the bumper, and a pipe bender, etc, maybe. There aren't any 'off the shelf' options for FMIC's on the Legacy.

f tube each person appears to do differently... although in the case of mine, it was extended off the block. Then each line from the top was routed appropriately.

What wires are you referring to? the ones which are tucked under the dogbone?
