New Guy Here!

Post by Vandal_RS »

Hey everybody.

I am the proud new owner of 92 Legacy SS 5-spd. It's white, has only 115k, and is bone stock, and is in pretty decent condition. I am the third owner, and paid only $1300 for it. Even smoked a pesky civic on the 200 mile ride home.

It has a small dent in the right front fender, and the exterior needs a good cleaning, but the interior is rip-free and in great shape. Mechanically, it needs the timing belt done, valve cover gaskets, and front brake pads. But it drives great.

Only really bad thing is the previous owner sealed the sunroof to fix a leak. I never really use them anyway.

So far, I am very impressed with it. I really didn't expect it to be this quick in stock form. It is definitely quicker than my 2000 Impreza RS. My good friend drove me down to get it in his Mazdaspeed3, and was surprised when he didn't completely smoke me on a long curving on-ramp. From 50 mph on up, it really moves. It has been quite a while since I have had a turbo car, and I forgot how addicting boost can be.

My goal for this car is to make a fun, fast, reliable daily driver that will embarrass WRXs for as cheap as possible. My Impreza is being sold to my brother, and I am thinking about stealing the V5 STi struts off it. I have 17" Enkei RP02s to throw on it as soon as I get some tires that will fit underneath it (currently they have 225/45's mounted on them, I which I believe are wide and/or tall). I have access to a STi cat-back, how hard is that to throw on? Also have access to STi sway bars front and rear, will those fit? Cheapest reliable power makers?

This looks like a great forum, I am excited to be part of it!

Welcome! This forum is awesome; totally different than NASIOC (in a good way).

If you can steal the struts/springs off of the RS (assuming they lowered your car a bit), then the Enkeis with 225/45's "should" fit. I have some P1 struts and springs off of a GC and I'm running 235/40/17's w/o rubbing, though some fender rolling was needed

If you want to throw on the cat-back, you'll need to have an exhaust shop weld in an extension in the mid-pipe. You CAN throw on the axle-back without modification.

Swaybars off of new Impreza SEDANS do not fit, however the front swaybar off of a WRX WAGON will fit (the rear swaybar off of a WRX wagon is the same size as the Legacy SS). Also, most all suspension parts off of a GC will fit.

LOTS of power can be hard to come by 'easily' on these cars. I'd suggest intake, exhaust and installing an intercooler as the first steps.

There's a wealth of information on here and probably just about every question you have has been asked once before, so take a peak around!
