I messed with the fuel system until I ran out of fittings. The lines need some bracing, but that's roughly how they will play out. A couple hose-ends and some bolts for the Y-block and it's there.

If I were to do it again, I wouldn't use braided stainless. Aeroquip Push-Lock hose with steel fittings would cost less than half the price and be much easier to source from many many industrial Areoquip dealers.

TCStangs is where all fast cars congregate, along with all the other domestic frap. There are plenty of imports on there too. Like Nate. He has an EK hatch that is putting around 680 to the wheels, and his plate says URV8SUX. Love it....

So does this mean I can get the "TLEGFTW" plate that you used to want?

I'm looking into the Push lock hose stuff now, and I'm also looking into going Coil on Plug. How complicated is that to set up, I assume since I have the LEM G3 it's doable. and pardon me asking if i already asked you about it, but I've only been into this import stuff since I watched your origanal build, so I tend to just do what ever you do until I can't afford it anymore haha.

Anything is fair game as far as plates go, so have at it Max.


Finding coilpacks isn't that hard. If you want a deal be prepared to wait a bit. The biggest thing is finding a WRX or STi engine harness for a reasonable price. You need the plugs, which Subaru does not sell individually. I got lucky and bought a WRX harness from Martin for $30.

Really....that's good to know about the WRX engine harness. I actually just bought a WRX harness for the knock sensor plug. Guess I'll hold onto the harness for the coil pack plugs.

They should be worth something here when people decide they hate changing plugs every 3k miles at 300whp.

How come you would need to change plugs at 3k miles with a coil and not with a coil on plug?

Why would you have to replace plugs so frequently? Is that due to having the wrong heat range?

The N/A is also waste spark and I only replaced a set of plugs with over 100k miles because I was doing the wires (for the second time on those same plugs) and they still looked decent. The car ate wires until I got Magnecors, but not plugs. If anything, that article makes my question more pertinent.

In regards to waste spark ignition per that link:
"As for the longevity of the components: this method has a very small, if any, impact on the length of the life of the components due to the better materials being used in modern spark plugs and ignition systems, which do not have breaker points because the ignition systems in today's cars and motorcycles are completely electronically (or computer) controlled/triggered."

That should all be correctable through proper plug choice. This isn't a race tuned carb motor or exotic V12 from the '60s running old copper from frequently out of synch twin distributors, nor are we talking a hand grenade 1500 hp drag weapon so it doesn't seem normal to me for a modern engine to eat plugs like that if properly chosen and tuned. Is the best choice not available in the right size? That's all I'm trying to determine.

I was running BKR7E11's at .028" gap. They worked well for 3k miles after which I would notice a slight misfire under load. I actually saw it on a dyno plot when I tried to tune the car on a mustang, but could not due to the ignition problem. Not many people run the old ignition system at 23 psi from a 47 lb/min turbo. Food for thought.


It is speculation, but I feel the wasted spark setup does not allow the necessary coil dwell time to support spark in high cylinder pressures. I used the "Diamond" coil, Magnecor wires, blah blah blah, and the plugs were finicky. Yes I could have ran platinum plugs that would have probably lasted longer, like in Derek's car with the same ignition setup. But I didn't.


Anyways, wasted spark setups give the coil half the dwell time of a COP arrangement. The modern grey Diamond COP's are well documented at supporting 5-6xxx whp without issue. It was a $130 upgrade, so why not. It also cleans up my engine bay, and gave me a place to put my FPR.

As far as the tune, I has driven it for two years self tuned. No issues in drivability, or under load. I just believe that copper plugs have short lives when used in high stress applications. A friend of mine changed his weekly in his race gas tuned STi. This isn't anything new. How many people here have pushed the stock ignition system beyond a VF39?

Thanks. That's what I was wondering or if it was coil output power also. What about iridium plugs? We used those on the serious go-fast boats to good effect. The center electrode was like a pin and we usually replaced the every year as a cash cow, but I doubt they actually needed to be replaced. I usually got the engines back up on the old plugs, and it would run fine. Big $$, though. I think we charged people $22/ea., but that could be marine markup.

Other thing I've found is that the MSD Dis-2 ignition has helped my setup. But I'm only running around 20 psi of boost and 30 lb/min. That's a lot less air. Anything more than what I have, I'd need to go COP as well.
