Did I do any Damage...

Post by 123c »

This morning at 5:30am when I was driving to work, I was going around a corner at 40mph, and I hit a curb. Is there a chance that I did much damage. The car seems to still track very straight, and it doesn't really seem to pull when I brake, so is it possible that I might have still done some damage. I am still going to have it looked at sometime, it's just that I don't have the time until sometime next week...

I've hit the same curb in my Mercedes a few times, and I have never done any damage to the suspension.

I forgot to Mention that the curb wasn't really all that tall, and when I was at work I did a quick visual inspection and didn't see anything bent. I figure that it is safe than sorry...

you hit front or rear?

was this a straight on hit, or how did you hit it?

i've done that several times to my rear suspension (sideways into curb) and done nothing more than bent the rims slightly which still hold air very well and only vibrate over 85. Just do an inspection, but i'm sure it's fine. It's a Subaru, not an Audi.

how much sideways speed do you think you had when you hit it? Was it a ramped type curb, or a square one?

I've been noticing that the car has been slightly pulling, during the past few days. It most likely is the horrible roads in my area, but I think I might have it looked at very soon...

Pay attention to whether there is a crest in the road... and which side of it you are on. I notice pulling all the time but adjust position on the road and it will start pulling to the other direction slightly (if i can get on the other side of the crest).

What's wierd is that my car will follow the road more after I got a 4-wheel alignment.

A lot of the roads have crests in them, and that's when I notice it the most.

last winter i slid around a curb too fast at my college parking lot, and hit the curb at a 45 degree angle. scraped my steelie a bit, and fixed my alignment. ;)

should be peachy. did an entire undercar inspection a couple months later, and the only thing thats wrong with my suspension besides worn springs/shocks is my sway bar bushings are dry-rotted.

I hope I won't slide around too much this winter. I had my first experience with the car on ice and snow and it did very well. It only lost control twice when I went around some corners a little too fast.

Inspect the tire for any hairline cracks or bubbles, a chunk of tire may have been pinch and flapped back into place.

Id take it to an alignment place. They give you a print out of the previous settings, it will give you an idea of anything was moved. You will also know if something is wrong if they cant align it right.

Most often in subarus the first damage to occur is a bent strut surprisingly enough!
