Vin Numbers with 555

Post by subieshad »

Hello all I am new to the whole deal hear looks like a great site. I have a question and have been getting all sorts of answers, mabey you guys can give me a hand. I have been told that cars that have a 555 in the serial number might be a special or one off kind of car. has anyone else heard this or is it all just BS.

Welcome to the board.

Unfortunately, though, what you've heard is in fact BS.

The number 555 is nothing more than the name of a British tobacco company. Their full name is State Express 555.

They were one of Subaru's biggest sponsors in the WRC for over 10 years, so the number has understandably become well-ingrained into Subaru's motorsports history.

But, to the best of my knowledge, Subaru has never used the number 555 to designate any special model or anything.

If your car has 555 somewhere in the VIN, it's nothing more than a funny coincidence, I'm afraid.

Ah, but what about the fact that 555 converted to hex=22b? I think that's what OP might have been thinking of. :-D
