Hi all! Legacy from Uruguay!!! Help me sporting it!!!

Post by mpereznoble »

Hi there! I did not found anywhere to introduce me, so i do it here now. If its not the place, please move... and tell me where hehe.

Well, I am Martín, 24 years old since next June 16th. I live in Uruguay, a little country next to Argentina and Brasil.

and i had just bought a 1992 Legacy 2.0 front wheel drive. There are too few 2.2 GX here, and i missed one of them for a week. The car has 228.000 kms and still runs very good. I was told that engines last like 400.000 kms. Interiors are great due to the fact that the previews owners put covers on them since new. Of course i removed them and made them wash.

As far as i know, my engine is a EJ20, SOHC rated at 115hp. Altought its very heavy, it moves very well compared to my 1993 Ford Escort 1.8 carbed i had before. I wanted a Legacy for years but i was very scared due to the high prices of the spare parts. To have an idea, a rear tail light is 200 dollars... Engine parts as a crankshaft is about 1200 doll.

The car is absolutelly standar, it has no mods at all, but i put a loud exhaust at the hour had it :D. Its a bit loud and i cant record it nice, but i promise a video soon.

Sorry for my english, i do the best i can!!! Here are some pics of the car....

My idea is to make a sport version of this car and im about to make a very important desicion. What rims to put??? Im interested in the Sports Sedan wheels or the Impreza GT 95 one`s. Wich of those do you prefere?

Is here a legacy with GT wheels?

Greetings to all, thanks for your time!!!

I love how you tell us where Uruguay is—you must have heard of Americans' infamously poor geography skills! (It's all true)

Interesting cloth seats. They don't like the same kind they sold in the US. Is the cloth soft? I like them better.

Any wheels except for a few years of STI will fit and any of them would be an improvement. Just changing the wheels, steering wheel, and gear shift knob in mine really transformed the car into something fun to drive. The first set of wheels I had were a set of unknown brand 15" alloys I got off Tirerack.com, which were great. Once I bent those beating the hell out of them, I went to 16" Forester flat 5-spoke wheels and I love them.

My 2.2 made it over 400k km of pretty extensive abuse before it melted an exhaust valve and I swapped out the engine. My alternator made it even longer.

I also own a 2006 Mazda 3 and I'm restoring the Legacy wagon to get it back on the road—the Legacy is a MUCH better car and I miss it.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

Bienvenidos! Lots of us are using later rims... Legacy GT, WRX, just about everything fits. Did you guys get the WRX there?
If you need parts, post a want-ad here, even with shipping it will be cheaper... nobody here goes to the Subaru dealer unless they absolutely have to.

Here's my wagon with '02 WRX rims on it;

Looks nice, are they 16 inch?

Today i saw some nice rims on 16in but i dont know what to do, its a lot of money to waste when you are no sure...

The costfull thing here are the taxes, i will ask and see what happens if someone send them as "gifts".... Some things doesnt pay taxes that way, but rims are too big to pass.... We`ll see!

Welcome to the BBS. Nice looking Legacy. The interior looks very clean.

As Steve mentioned, wheels really transforms the looks of these cars. Here's a picture of mine with the stock hub caps vs. wheels.

The rims on the wagon in that pic are 16", I have since changed to LGT 16" "snowflakes" Just about all factory alloy 5x100 rims are at least 16" from Legacy GT '96 or '97 and later, except the Outbacks which used 15s (the original Turbo rims) for a few more years. The newest WRX rims are 17" from the factory... and yes, they will fit your car. Lots of choices, so take your time. The only 5-bolt Subaru rims that won't fit your car are STI '05+ (5x114.5) and SVX. (5x112)

As i can see, is useless to put a 15in wheel thats not the turbo ones. Impreza`s gt are very expensive and doesnt look that good neither.
I really dont know what to do, i cant stand the car with these wheels, but maybe by painting de caps and bumpers, it would look very good too. Maybe i can make it look in excelente condition by doing that and then i can earn some money until being able to put 16 in wheels.
Does someone invent something with the caps that looked nice? Another color maybe? The one on the front grill (black grey)?

I`m all eyes to sugestions!

Thanks for the compliments. The wheels are 16". When I got them back in 97, that was a pretty decent size, but may be small compared to stuff today.
