Tansission problems...

Post by Whisenhunter »

Recently picked up a 1990 Legacy AWD auto and realized that the four wheel drive is not working when i got stuck on a beach. When I start the car the Power icon flashes 16 times on my dash. Anybody have any ideas?

Pull the codes - HERE- for the TRANSMISSION ( :-) ). Most likely either the rear clutches or the Duty C solenoid is bad. Both can be fixed w/the trans in the car, if you're handy.

Put the FWD fuse in under the hood. If the car drives differently, than the Duty C is working, which means it's the clutches.

Tried to pull a code but everything was normal. Going to be pulling the engine/tranny out of the car soon to replace some engine seals and crack the transmission as there is some jitter while driving every now and then.

If the power light flashes at startup there is an active code, and it should be displayed when checking the codes. I would try again. There's a procedure for active codes and stored codes.
