Top Gear American version first episode

Post by SILINC3R »

So haven't even finished the first episode and so far Im sure if I like. I thought they would make it a little different but they didn't. It's a little slow too. Their first challenge seems to take forever. Im hoping if it stays on the air it will get better. Well let me know what yall think.

yea I hear what your saying. Kind of sad really that we make it a crappier show, I guess Jeremy will be giving us some more shit, lol.

Horrible show. It's bad enough they tried to milk it by making another Top Gear show but they did a terrible job. I saw it on while I was at work tonight and it killed me to watch it. They tried to make it exactly the same but the hosts are funny at all and the stig just looks fat and it's obviously not the same guy. I hated it. They should be ashamed of themselves for taking the best show ever to air on television and trying to remake it with americans.

I caught a few minutes of it, but agree they tried to copy it pretty much to the letter. I tivo'd it, and will have to watch it this week.

I was not a fan on it, it's just not the same as the original top gear. It should have been called something different

I thought it was bad. I was hoping for the best, I tried to give it a chance and not compare it to TGUK, but it's just not good. The hosts seem to scripted and not entertaining or funny. And worst of all, as mentioned, they tried way to hard to just be a copy of TGUK, even ripping off scenes directly.

What they needed to do was just take inspiration from TGUK and try to make their own original scenes, not try to copy it.

I had no idea they were going to try to copy it so much. I thought it would be a different show but with the same type of content. They even copied the STIG! Worst part of the show was probably where they tried to mimic TGUK when they introduced the Stig  That was embarrassing.

Worked awesome for The Office...

I didn't see it, but now I don't want to... I get TGUK with Netflix anyways. I don't think Americans know how to do good entertaining car shows without some sort of reality TV premise.

Um... Y'all seen the 1st season of TGUK, right? Now that whole season sucked. It got a bit better in season 2-3 but season 4 is when it got "good" in my opinion.

I'm gonna give it time, just like I did with TGAU, which is pretty similar to TGUK as well (but I actually enjoy watching when TGUK is off the air, along with 5th Gear which isn't that great)

This was the little bit I've seen so far, and yes I agree, it was embarrassing to see them introduce the stig the exact same way as Clarkson does.....

The comments on facebook have been pretty bad.....it's funny.

I read somewhere that TGUS features the same director as TGUK, so that may explain some of the similarities. Admittedly, I haven't watched it yet.

Exactly like top gear did but it wasn't funny. That's the difference. I wonder what clarkson would be thinking had he watched that epic failure.

Me too. TG America will probably be on par with TGAU, which is the best we could hope for. None of the spin-offs have been as good as TGUK, why do people expect TG America to be any different? Even the first episode of TGUK wasn't great.

Before people start hating on the American version, go watch the Russian version. :smt120 Then eagerly await the next American episode.

I'll just keep waiting for the new season of Top Gear UK. I don't think I could stand to sit through and entire episode of that. I have all the seasons of Top Gear and even their first season wasn't nearly that bad.

it was better than i thought it would be. I think tanner foust sounded way to scripted and makes a horrible host.

I am intersted to see what else they do but i do not expect a lot from it

so I just watched my first ever episode of TGAU which I didn't know existed and I got to say we must not have tried on our show at all. It was pretty good. A complete knock off but I thought it went pretty well. Maybe it has something to do with hearing different people talk. Maybe the UK and AU guys like our show.

I watched the first episode last night. You know....it was definitely a complete rip of all the others. If you hadn't seen the UK version, you wouldn't be picking out all the stuff that is exactly the same as the UK version.

As others have said.....we'll see how the next episodes come along. I think they need to kind of make their own niche of how they do things and not follow the UK version to the letter.

Good article, thanks for posting that.

I think it comes down to the personal interaction... the guys on TGUK have know each other for years, are comfortable giving the others a hard time, and it's entertaining simply to watch them talking to each other.

Give the US crew a chance to grow into the roles, this show has great potential to be every bit as good as the original, they just have to learn to make it their own.

The first season of the US version of "The Office" was pretty weak, as I recall, but they figured how to be their own show after a while.

^this.
I just watched the first TGUS episode and it seemed forced, whereas the TGUK hosts are very natural with each-other.

They're alright. The HALO jumper vs. the Raptor was alright. I'm not a very critical viewer though :)
