Legacy Strut Spacers

Post by crawlerdan »

First off-long time no see-ive been in the subaru game, but pretty quiet online

I purchased a 1991 wagon and wanted to fit 225/60/16 all terrains
I wanted a spacer for the struts on my 91 legacy
and i came to the realization that no one made these parts for the rear of early legacys, front spacers where availiable for other subarus. but none tailored to the rear of tehse cars.

i had already lifted the car using forester struts, and trailing arms, but needed just a little more to take advantage of the large tires i had.

so i contacted a local machinest and he got started. the prototype set was finished early january , and installed on my car.

it is 1 inch thick high density plastic

i had him machine reliefs in the bottom so that the longer studs could be bolted on, then the spacer installed, this provides a double shear attachment for the studs, and also aids in the installation process

i used 1 inch longer then stock studs, and still had room for my strut tower bar in front

the rusult was a gain in one inch, an no negative affect on camber at all, it was measured at exactly 0* camber front and rear before and after install

these will fit all 1st gen legacy wagons and sedans.

the front pieces will fit all subarus newer then 1989-i think

install took 2 hours with air tools

these will be availiable soon for sale, will include all 4 spacers for front and rear installs, grade 8 mounting hardware, and instructions
The price is kind of up in the air still, but i assure you it will be more then competative with current plastic spacers

i have photos of teh machining process, as well as install and final product-anyone want to tell me how to post pics?

The lift will fit on the front. But the rears are a different spacing. There are spacers available for your rear struts through other companies.

Would the spacers be a good alternative to outback struts? Are they easy to imstall, like can I install them in the front yard with hand tools?

anyone with common tools can install them in a few hours. included is detailed instuctions and a tool list

out back struts will lift you a little more, but these are comparable in height, and way cheaper/easier

so with stock suspension, it does not wear anymore than normal on tires, axles, sways, etc?

how much "lift" does the kit add with stock suspension? what are the largest tires one can fit with stock 15" wheels?

where and how do i order?

ok- the largest tire you can run with stock struts is a 195, maybe 205 65, the stock struts dont allow much room, outback struts provide more lift and allow a larger tire

as for wear, you will not see any issues with a 1 nch increase as long as you maintain alignment

this is a one inch lift, it greatly helps with ground clearance

to place an order, send moohlah to crawlerdan@hotmail.com
(paypal address)- include a shipping address and the year of your car
