06 LGT 5spd swap 94 TW auto, now 04 forester xt drivetrain
decided for my TW 5 speed swap to go with a 06 LGT 5 speed trany because the price was right. Going to try to post plenty of photos through the process, and make things as clear as possible. , List of parts are still tentative not all homework done
Quick Parts list- Not complete please feel free to add in:
Edit
Tranmission - 06 LGT 5 speed Tran 04 Forester XT 5spd
Shifter and linkage - 09' to 11' STI shift linkage forgot which, will have to modify to get it to work

Clutch and pressure plate - performance from 02 wrx using 06 wrx clutch
Rear diff - late 90s LGT 4.11 LSD, will see 04 XT 4.44 LSD
Pedal Assembly - 02 wrx pedals AP Racing Pedal Box, Tilton Slave Cylinder

Re: 05 LGT 5spd swap 94 TW auto
You'll also need the 8 bolts that bolt the flywheel to crank, and the six that bolt the pp to clutch disk. Small things i forgot. The auto flexplate bolts won't work. As for the flywheel/clutch, make sure they work because i remember someone saying the lgt used a dual mass flywheel. If the deal falls through, i got a full swap out of my 01 rs Im parting out.

I don't know that the starter can be modified. Looks very different from the manual one.

Re: 05 LGT 5spd swap 94 TW auto
Assumed it was the same, guess I need to source one.
Anyone know if the casing is the same for the 05 LGT trany and the 6 speed sti trans, first glance it looked pretty similiar

From the drive train section stick Gear Ratio and LSD info chart

Appears they are all listed as pull style clutch transmissions

Re: 05 LGT 5spd swap 94 TW auto
Out of your list, are you referring to the 6spd STi shift linkage or just a 5spd "STi" short throw shifter linkage? The AT drive shaft will not work, it is too short. You will need a MT drive shaft.

Re: 05 LGT 5spd swap 94 TW auto
6 speed linkage which I plan to modify to work with the LGT trany , has a kartboy short shifter with shifter bushing
wrx manual driveshaft should work i think
anyone know if the LGT trany mount will work?

Re: 05 LGT 5spd swap 94 TW auto
Not saying it can't be done, but getting a 5MT shifter linkage setup will probably work better in the long run.
The WRX driveshaft may be too short. It's been noted that the WRX exhausts need to be lengthened in the mid-pipe section to fit our cars, so it's very plausible that the driveshaft would be shorter as well.

Re: 05 LGT 5spd swap 94 TW auto
i dont think the trans will work anyway... the 05 LGT trans is a 3.90.
either way, i have a driveshaft, pedals, hydraulics etc... just no trans atm.

Most these parts are takeoffs from other subarus, the idea is to not buy more parts, If you specifically saw a 05 LGT clutch and flywheel please explain further I am just going by what the chart said so i don't run into these issues when my car is on a lift. Maybe the Rallispec Gearbox Chart is wrong, i don't think I missinterpreted it. I am guessing you saw a different model year LGT trany other than the 05 . For example 03 and 04 LGT trans were push style, I owned a 00' LGT when I somehow blew 5th gear on the NY State thruway when I swapped tranys I saw it "in person".MikeyMeyagi wrote:

Re: 05 LGT 5spd swap 94 TW auto
Mikey is correct, the 05 LGT trans is a push style clutch setup. Here's the clutch info page from the 05 Legacy factory manual.

Mikey you are right, just talked to my buddy who is selling the trans it is a push style, I am going to use an 06 wrx clutch not the 02-03 wrx clutch

Re: 05 LGT 5spd swap 94 TW auto
Hi,
I just swapped in a '98 Forester 5-speed and an '00 4.11 rear LSD, so been there/done that on a couple of these items.
I saw it mentioned above, but you didn't "edit" your list. You'll need a different FW to go w/the Push-style clutch setup. After about a week I'm happy w/the ACT Streetlite I got used and had turned before install.
You'll need different rear axles for that LSD rear diff - it's an 'inny' not an 'outy' like your TW...or you might be able to re-use the stubs from your TW?
I don't know the size of the LGT trans, but a 5-speed drive-line from a '95-99 wouldn't fit my install - too long. A '93 did, BUT I had to swap the pinion flange on the 4.11 diff to match the older drive staff's flange...they changed bolt spacing along the way...BTW, that flange is PITA to get off the rear diff. I could've used the front half of the drive line from the '93 and rear half from a '95, but swapped the pinion flange instead.
Be aware of the speedo gear you may need to change/swap HERE is a post on NASIOC...If I read it correctly you need to split the case to do this.

Re: 05 LGT 5spd swap 94 TW auto
I am hoping my friends LW flywheel isn't too noisy he had some complaints about it in his wrx,
I am thinking of using as much of the LGT drive train as possible, hopefully the entire drive line, VLSD from a 00' RS and LGT rear axles, would like to avoid the issues with the flanges you listed above.
Before I decided to go with the LGT trans i researched the speedo gear issue, don't feel like paying that much for the gear from the dealer so i am going to the u pull for it.

Since you're looking @ doing this: Rear main seal - EJ22T (which may not be leaking)
You should also do the Rear Separator Plate - $25. (which probably IS leaking)

That linkage may work, but I've never heard anyone trying to use the 6spd linkage in the 5spd and whether it works or not.

Re: 05 LGT 5spd swap 94 TW auto
either RS25 or DirtyImpreza I read someone either wanted to or did in fact do it. The short answer no it wont work due to the length of the control rods and bends, and the linkage core is symmetrical on the LGT,Legacy777 wrote:That linkage may work, but I've never heard anyone trying to use the 6spd linkage in the 5spd and whether it works or not.njdriver04 wrote:Picture of the shifter linkage

pictured LGT 05-06 shifter
In modifying the shifter I wanted to do bend the control rods and cut out 1 to 1 1/2 inch each control rod. Afterwards, each of the cut ends will have threading machined on each end for a total of four ends, one side would have a left hamded thread and the othera right hand thread , then I need to source a nut with a 50/50 split in the thread direction which will allow me to adjust the actual length of the control rods, I want to go this route because it would allow my shifter to be adjustable to the point were I can find my sweet spot. I will also have the LGT shifter during the whole process so I can possibly make a hybrid shifter too. Thoughts????
