engine stall

Post by yazmo »

yea i got an issue, i use to be able to make thye car start, usualy pumping the gas pedal, but right now its just wont start. i have another iac valve and gasket that im going to put on.

first symtom was the engine rev was keep going up and down, and on a stop i had to set the car on neutral and hold the gas steady or the engine would just stop "too low rpm".

anyone can suggest me another thing that could cause this problem i have change my spark plug and wire and it was stilll doing it, so i though the valve have stay close so the gas is not reaching. any help is welcome

Are there any codes stored in the ECU?

How does the engine run otherwise? Are there any other issues?

Have you ever adjusted the throttle body or IAC valve?

nope i dint touch any of those yet, and i never did a code test on that legacy.

i know there is a place here, that show how to do it, i'm gonna look into it right now.
for the throttle body i have a brand new one, that i could put on too, but i don't have garage to work on
and there is a ton of snow outside, so its kinda hard to work on the car.

I will start with iac valve and let you know, what happen.

the engine run fine a little tic tic tic sound but my other legacy was doing that too, i think those are lifter and this is a common problem, but the car was running very nice, we also find out that the car was very very low if not empty on coolant car was overheating , we refill it and the car is not over heating now.
i really dont know how the coolant went to full from empty that fast i dont see any leak anywhere.

also there is big dark black smoke going out of the muffler, usualy stop after i car drove a little.

It sounds like your car may be running rich (black smoke). Combine that symptom with the fact it's hard to start and I would suspect the coolant temp sensor may need to be replaced.

I'd suggest just changing the coolant temp sensor first. If that doesn't help, then replace the IAC valve. If you change both and the problem is fixed, you won't know what actually fixed the problem.
