VF28

Post by Mt.HOODrat »

i have the opportunity to buy a vf28. any guys running one?

my question is could i get away with running this turbo with the stock ecu and stock injectors? from my understanding it is bigger than a td04 but smaller than a 16g.... what do you guys think? will it be fine if i run 10-12 psi?

my other mods will be 3'' turboback, and a TMIC.

You should be fine running 10-12 psi. You'll probably want to get a wideband to check your AFR's out to make sure you're not at the edge of your MAF & injectors. You'll be close, but should be ok.

Stock boost controller is around 8-9 psi or so. Yes it'd be fine at stock boost levels.

cool, yeah i hoped id be good at those levels, i was aiming for a td04 but i got ripped on a couple.... last time i buy from someone with no feedback...

then i found this vf28 from a guy on nasioc, had a ton of great feedback so i took it. it was crazy cheap, only a little bit for more than what a mint td04 was going for, plus it had a 90* aluminum elbow inlet welded on! so yeah, im gonna take it easy for now at stock boost levels, but when i save enough cash, these are my plans:

i just got this turbo, 06 tmic, and a 3'' downpipe and a 3'' straight pipe. then, i want to save for yellow tops, robs tune, and do the snorkus and coffee cup mod...

any guess what i would put down at the wheels with these mods?
stock 22t longblock (for now)
vf28 at 14-16 psi (or what ever the robs tune is programmed for i guess)
06-07 TMIC
3" turboback (no cats/muffler)
yellow top sti sidefeeds
desnork/CC mod
JECS maf
= ???awhp?

i know my slushbox will get grenaded (4eat) but i plan to do a wrx 5 sp when i can.

You'll probably be in the 200 hp range

Really? That's weak... Is it the heads that are the limiting factor?I figured I could make more than that...

Drive train sucks up a bit of power. Even on the STi's, which are 300 chp, will dyno around 250 whp. Or at least where I had my car dyno'd. That's 50 hp just in drivetrain losses!

So to get 200 whp, you need 250 crank hp. It just takes more money and specific parts to make big power on Subarus.

I will however say that just because the numbers aren't big, doesn't mean the car won't feel fast.

-I agree with that. The dynolicious iPhone app told me I was putting down 167whp an I'm happy with that, tho I do want more!
