Hallman Pro Manual Boost Controller

Post by Redlined »

Well.. Ive barely had my boost controller on 24 hours and, oh! What a differance!

Installation is straight forward with easy to read instructions covering a variety of cars. (or even better, DLCs guide to installing a Hallman boost controller)

Performance gains noticed immediately, even at stock boost levels. With the stock boost controller (on my car) the turbo would kind of build up to max pressure over a second or so. With the Hallman it is RIGHT NOW. The car also seems to be making more power, even at stock boost levels.

Noise. Not only is the turbo louder, the noise is also higher pitched. A bonus for the sporty "look at me" crowd. I assume the turbo is spooling faster than with the stock controller thus the more noise, higher pitch and improved performance.

Installation Kit. Utter rubbish. Ok yes. this is a generic application Intended for use on a variety of vehicles. HOWEVER. The provided hose was to small, WAY to small. The "T" connector might have fit, if the hose was the right size. The vacume cap was, once again, to small. I ended up scrapping the whole lot and buying my own fittings caps and hose. Which, by the way, was cheaper than the amount spent on the installation kit.

In summery. Two thumbs WAY up for the Hallman Pro Manual Boost Controller. But don't waste your cash on the install kit.
Dave

Good to know. I appreciate the writeup, I'll probably look into this one once I get tuned.

I installed the Hallman pro on my car several months ago. I too would recommend it. Easy installation and noticeable increase on boost level reaching max right away.

I've had one sitting on my desk for months now, but haven't installed yet because I wasn't sure there'd be any gain staying at stock boost. I guess I'll have to go try it out now!

not to bring up a dead thread, but better than starting a new one. Is it necessary to have that little brass fitting ("breather hole") in the vaccuum system as shown in the install guide in the library? or would I be fine without it?

Wow, So what's the difference in just having an MBC run off the nipple on the compressor housing verses the intake manifold???

I say none. I've run it both ways, I could tell no difference in boost characteristics. I like running it off the compressor nipple because its less vacuum splices and a tad cleaner.

Running it off the intake manifold can create greater chances for part throttle full boost.

Good info. Im assuming from the wink that ptfb is no good. I'll me installing my hallman pro mbc sometime this week when i can make it to auto zone. Where should I spice in for the boost gauge? Is the intake manifold where suggested earlier a good location?

Yes, the intake manifold is the only place you'll get both boost and vacuum readings.
