Don't need it.
Don't have room for it.
Don't know if it is, or can be, legal.
The wife will likely kill me and take everything I own.

But it's in my grasp an oh soooo cooool.

Talk to me guys.

I'd drive the wheels off of that thing! Even though it is an auto...

If it was me, and I had a responsible, doable way to buy that without going into major debt or something, I totally would do it.

California plates eh, why are you questioning the legality of it? Do it, or regret it for a long time, haha.

Aside from the obvious, that thing has outstanding paint for the color and that state.

The plates are dealer plates. That tells me that it likely isn't legal. It's generally VERY hard to make it legal, especially if it doesn't already have the proper paperwork. Getting the proper paperwork will likely be impossible because it's already in the country.

That being said, I know of a white USDM POSTAL wagon. Everything should swap, other than the raised roof differences.

How hard is it to buy a postal wagon and swap the vin tags?

One swaps with the dash.
Another rivets to the strut tower.

However one is stamped in the firewall and many of the body panels have a tamper evident VIN sticker. IIRC, there are also a few more VINs stamped into other places on the unitbody.

With my luck, I'd get nailed fast. VIN swap is not my first choice. I like the low roof better then the high roof, but I also like Winestoine better then white.

And don't forget, I just picked up a '91 SS sedan to play with too. UGGGG.....

Ewwwww, wagon. I'd just title it as a postal, around here you'd have a 99.9% chance of never getting busted.

Don't do a VIN swap. You'd be one traffic stop away from the car going to the crusher, especially in California.

Email John, who did the title work on my B4: blackopsperformance@yahoo.com

He's here in Florida and isn't familiar with California laws, but he still might be able to help you.

If everything's square, do it, and do everything in your power to save that absolutely-baller "TOURING WAGON" rear step plate.

I don't see he big deal in a vin swap. If you hit the dash, strut tower, and door jamb, how would you ever get caught besides being a theft suspect? I don't recall cops or mechanics ever looking past the dash or door jamb for it, its not worth their time without good reason.

I know a few JDM vehicles rolling around wish USDM vain plates.

As a prior Customs Officer and a LEO: DON'T DO THE VIN SWAP!

If it has a plate, then it has some kind of paperwork.
Might have to register it in another state, but you might be able to make it legal.

I would get it and NOT CHANGE A THING!
Yes I have too many Subarus
No you can't have one

Yeah, I second looking into the other state thing. When I was going to build my car as a tadpole trike, my plan B to get around ambiguous MA state laws was to have it registered in the very easy NH through family (though as a motorcycle and I would've preferred it as a car). Once titled as a custom motorcycle, I would've had it "sold" to me and reregistered in MA and there wouldn't have been any questions (except for likely annoying curious cops).
