I actually have some of those STi door stickers to put on also. I think I can get away with an STi sticker, after all I will have a v7 STi suspension pretty soon. Also I need to get TD05H, and the STi yellows...so it will have a bit o' STi in it heheh

Also has anyone gotten a v8 STI top mount to fit? Because I could probably get one pretty cheap...I also have a Grimmspeed AOS kit that I would like to use, would these legacy SS' benefit from an oil sperator kit? do they get bad oil blow by?

FIRST I really need to get some engine cleaner, does anyone know of a really good cleaner that actually works?? I want to do the valve cover gasket and the oil pan gasket, but I want to give it a good cleaning first. Anyone have any good suggestions for a engine cleaner?

Purple Power! It works wonders. Put some in a spray bottle (about 1/3 will work) and fill the rest up with water and shake it up. Spray it all over everything under the hood. Really soak the engine bay. Then immediately blast with pressure washer. No need to worry about electronics or any of that. It will look new again. Don't let that purple power sit though or it will eat your paint off haha. Or so it says on the jug. You can use it to strip paint off RVs and stuff at full strength.

Thanks, and thanks for the advice, I used purple power on my S13 build, worked great!! I ended up getting some simple green at BJ's wholesale (giggity) came with a spray bottle, I imagine it is similar in strength to purple power.

Anyways, So some major stuff done the past few days, all my brake stuff finally came in so I got a paintin'

The first day I started kind of late so the pics are a bit dark
Image
Duplicolor Metal cast anodized purple, and the special primer (just ignore the beheaded Minnie mouse lawn jocky thing ::lol:)
Image
primer on, looks all sparkly :D
Image
Image
first coats, then it got dark, and the pics were looking like shit so I called it a day.

Started fresh the next day and taped up the rears and the other front caliper

PRIME TIME!!!

now some more paint, looks wet even when dry :)

Dry and assembled

COMPLETE!!

here is the rear drum hardware and shoes

I think they came out pretty nice. I also ordered some pink STi brake decals, I don't think the rears will fit a decal, so I might stick those 2 somewhere else. I know it might be a touch ricey as I don't have an actual STi motor but I do have V7 suspension and plan on getting a Td05H or a VF series turbo at some point, and if it will fit I am going to use a V8 STi intercooler..might be too big though..we shall see, I have a 0 WRX one that will work for now.

Awesome. I'd like to see them installed. Will regular paint hold up to the heat or do you need high temp paint?

It is duplicolor anodized purple, high heat application so it should be fine for calipers, I have seen people use the other colors on their calipers and it help up over a few years. So hopefully it will stay looking good.

I grabbed the valve covers off the other motor and am going to paint them up also, I was thinking leaving the raised letters and lines the duplicolor silvery primer color and the main body of the vavle cover purple...just gotta figure out a way to tape the raised letters off.

the first EJ22T I pulled finally out of the pickup bed and on a stand...

Just gotta clean em up and ready them for some paint.

Finally got to the last bit of painting today, it went fairly decent, the hood and roof are still a bit uneven for some reason, i painted the roof by opening the sunroof and popping out to paint it...worked pretty good lol

Image
Image

Some random guys walking by with a 30 rack gave me a beer lol, so I finished painting the 2nd coat, drank my beer and went upstairs to wait for it to dry.
Image
...waiting....

After the final coat went on I gave it a batch, washed away all the spider webs and shmootz etc....
Image
Image
Looking pretty good now, the hood still doesn't look 100% to me though, some areas got a bit thicker paint coating than the other places..but that's the bricks when you use rattle cans...oh well. For now it is all one color, so I am satisfied

Thanks haha, I do my best :) I love to save my favorite rigs from ending up at the junker...they don't deserve the same fate as some Skylark of ill repute....

i'll try that, although I am quite handy with my taping skills i might just try it my way first and then if that is making me rip my hair out ill steal some of my wife's polish. I was hoping to do it today but I ran into a local that goaded me into a harbor freight trip that ended in me running sound deadening material in his RSTi lol

Hey Mark I almost forgot to ask you, those heads that came in the trunk by themselves, are those good to go on a motor or do they need to be checked at a machine shop? I have a guy locally that wants to turbo his 22E so I was going to sell em, I just don't want him to have any trouble using them...

Well just to be sure i'll take off the ones on the other motor, the inside of those heads still looks great.

Got Sex Panther towed to my school last night...got it on the lift this morning carful not to crush in the rockers, I had to put the pads on the rear trailing arm bushings :unamused:

Image

Image
Image
front and rear are both looking quite crudtacular...minus the new rotors....

Image
cleaned up and ground off all the rust here, also replaced all the lug studs, lookin fresh :D

After mowing the lawn and sweating my fucking ass off, I simpled greened the piss out of these valve covers, letting the foam really get in there...lol you can hear it sizzling away the grease...I made it really foamy by loading a sponge with that stuff.
Image

gonna brush it off and then wash it with soap and water in the sink..hopefully wifey won't get all pissed off at me lol

Are you painting them? If you are, I'd recommend a long bath in something stronger that will draw the years of oil out of the metal. I used the same stuff on mine and the paint peeled off even after cleaning with acetone and using an acid etching primer.

Yes I am going to paint them, right now they are in a bag filled with undiluted simple green in the tub. I plan on lightly sanding then cleaning with acetone before paint...thanks for the tip :)

Is the floor in the school's garage tile? It looks like it.

Simple Green really isn't the best cleaner to use on aluminum. It can cause accelerated corrosion.

http://www.simplegreen.com/solutions_fa ... y=aluminum

Soaking the parts in a heavy duty degreaser would be my recommendation. I like the citrus degreaser home depot has, and it's pretty potent. Brake cleaner without mineral spirits really works the best to cut tough grease, but may not be the best option for trying to "soak" something.

Yes the floor is tile, probably one of the reasons for the high tuition costs lol

Yeah I noticed that there was some white bumps of corrosion on there when i removed them from their simple green bath. All of the heavy caked on grease is gone though....I am taking a steel brush to clean up the last bits of residue before I sand it with some 150 grit. That should take care of any grease from years past and give me a fresh clean surface to prime and paint.

The tile looks nice but I wonder how it will hold up when someone drops something heavy on it like a hub assembly or a rotor from a diesel truck or a tranny.

I am sure a large hub or rotor would definitely chip it, it's ceramic so if you dropped a rotor, it would probably be no good after that lol...

Sanding down the surface crap is a bitch, it is really tough to get in every nook and cranny....i'll have pics once I am done before I shoot some paint on it.
