FCD Search

Post by 92legacyawdturbo »

Ok so trying to find a fuel cut defender for a 92 legacy turbo 2.2t. I cant find any universal ones to work and was curious as I keep seeing wrx ones all the time. Is there a chance that a wrx one would work or could I be pointed in the correct direction so can avoid this issue. Thanks a lot for the help.

Most, if not all FCD's work the same way. They clamp, or keep the MAP voltage from going above a certain point. This effectively eliminates the stock fuel cut. The trick is that different cars are setup with different MAP sensors and different fuel cut points. So if you can find a FCD that is adjustable, you should be able to make it work on your legacy.

Ok so could I get some help in the right direction as where to go such as running a wrx one may work or if I look for one if it says adjustable that may work as well.

Something like this:

If you can post a wiring diagram of one you're interested in or at least what wiring connections are there, I can provide you some input on the wiring.

As for a particular FCD, hopefully some others can provide input.

Either "should" work. The instructions for the DSP on their ebay page aren't exactly correct. I would hope they have better instructions that come with it.

Funny I found this thread. Just tried to install an HKD FCD Today. I ran a ground to the chassis and power off the cigarette lighter. I then ran the white and yellow wire from the FCD to the "Map Sensor Signal" pin.

No go. I followed this pin out. Any help?

Did you just run the two wires directly to the map sensor signal wire?

If you did you have to interrupt that pin. I.e. cut the wire at the ecu pin (leave a few inches before the ecu pin to work with.) One FCD wire goes to the harness side (input TO the FCD) and othe OTHER wire goes to the ecu pin (output TO the ECU.)

If You did it the way I listed above, Did you check your input and output wires from the fcd to the wire harness? Maybe you have the wires backwards?

I tapped the two wires directly to the map signal wire. That where my issue is?

There is a white and yellow wire. I bought the FCD second hand. So no instructions as to what wire goes where.

So looks like I am supposed to run 1 wire to the ECU side and 1 to the harness side. Not all together. Any idea which one is which?

Yes you have to split the harness Map sensor signal wire. So yes, that is where your issue is. There are users that have installed the HKS FCD so if you search for HKS FCD you should be able to find the correct information you seek.

Those instructions didn't help much. Just made me a little more confused actually. The diagram I am using for the ECU pin out says I was into the MAP sensor signal wire. I wired it in properly last night...Or so I thought. Car wouldn't stay running and check engine light was on.

Am I supposed to wire this into the Pressure Exchange Solenoid?

Bleh. I even tried switching the wires and everything. Unless that link I posted a few posts up is wrong for where the map signal is.

That diagram for the ECU I-O & MAP signal is correct. That diagram is oriented as if you are looking directly at the ECU. So make sure you have the correct wire. If you've got the correct wire, I'd try and track down some installation instructions for the HKS FCD.
