vf11 grinding

That spinning thing that makes all of the cool noises. OE and Aftermarket.

vf11 grinding

Post by ugaucin »

My vf 11 is grinding pretty bad for the last two days. I noticed lack of power when this grinding noise started. It sounds like metal on metal. Any ideas?

Its probably blown. the compressor fins rub against the housing and can sometimes stop the fan blades from spinning. that basically stops all airflow to your engine.

It may only be comtacting the housing lightly at high speeds (theres not enough load to spin the turbo super fast in park/nuetral).

Id look for a replacement. Good used ones are dirt cheap.

Alright thank you. I forgot to mention that it started making that noise after I power washed the engine at work. Drop some power steering on the block and it was burning it bad so I had to clean it off. But I didn't get the turbo wet. Maybe like 6 drops of water St most.

Even if water got into the turbo inlet, it shouldnt cause grinding, especislly if it wasnt completely soaked. The oil and coolant lines for the turbo are sealed, if fluid could get in or out you'd notice them leaking. If youre certain its the turbo youre hearing, I dont think its related.

You can remove the 90 degree inlet from the turbo and check the turbo's shaft play and look at the compressor to verify that it is the problem.
