is it just me?

Post by lucas »

Or does anyone else thing stancing out a 1st gen legacy is a stupid way to ruin a rare car? Idiot body kits included?

No disrespect to anyone, just think the 1st gen turbo legacy should be kept the way it is.

There will always be those who think that stancing a car makes it look cool: no matter the car.

There are those who go to great lengths and spend mucho dinero to get every available option for their car, both from stateside, and overseas. ;)

I don't completely understand either type :-D

I think stancing in general is a good way to ruin the ride and handling of any car. But people don't do it for ride or handling, they do it purely for show. And I know some take pride in the ridiculous compromises they make daily driving stances cars. I don't get it, but I can't hate that much. My favorite car of all time is a rust station wagon thats modded to have about as much HP as the average new family sedan.

@Lucas I understand. Each car I have is functional in its own way as well. While I can admit that I really do like the look of most lowered cars, the whole negative camber thing is kind of silly in my opinion.
I'm actually hoping to LIFT my legacy soon. Haha.

I get it. They like the way it looks. I don't but I don't have to drive their cars. Saw one today. Probably 2012 honda civic si with the rears about as much negative as one could get without riding on the rims. Weird thing is this guy didn't even have stretched tires so its going to be riding on the corners of the tread and wear like crazy. If you stretch the tires it resembles more of a motorcycle tire and seems like it won't wear as much.

They do it to be different and because of the attention it draws but it looks pretty dangerous to me.

I feel like the negative camber and stretched tires is a bad idea. I'm waiting to see a tire pop its bead and sparks shoot. Hell maybe it'll happen today, happy fourth!

Its popular enough here that Im pretty sure if it were that dangerous we would have seen some wreckage by now. But then again, cars like that HAVE to be driven pretty conservatively unless the driver wants to go bouncing around like basketball, so that probably helps prevent blowouts. Not to mention these guys have to replace tires much more often, theyre probably just getting brokem in by the time they wear that inside tread.

@Kimo, I think youre getting stretched tires backwards. The tire is too narrow for the rim, resulting in the bead being stretched out, and the sidewall being partially used for the tread. The opposite of a MC tire thats wider than the rim with a tread that partially wraps onto the sidewall.

I also think raising a car for "off road" is stupid. But you don't see many people complaining.

It is what it is, people do what they like. Hell there are some people who think it's stupid that we spend money to make cars faster. They are just meant to get you from point A to point B don't you know? ;)

Not at all actually. I never have any problems. If anything scraps it's the exhaust in the rear. I never hit frame on anything. But I'm also a careful driver, not everybody has the patience or skill to drive a car with little to no clearance.

There's a point where no amount of skill or approach angle will get you over apartment speedbumps :(

If you live where that isn't gaurunteed damage from idiots and good chances of ticketing or towing because of street cleaning, then that's cool. I would do almost anything to never have to park on the street again, to include raising my car to look ridiculous if I had to deal with huge speed bumps or a steep grade.

Seriously?

You purposefully made your car so shitty to drive to the point it requires "skill" to navigate typical streets? No, that's not skill. That's stupidity. Creeping over speedbumps at a 45* angle to avoid scraping your $3000 car is not a skill.

My daily driver is a supercharged Lotus Elise, that thing is low to the ground, fiberglass, super small, and with 280hp to the rear wheels will spin around on you pretty quickly if you are stupid with it. Even I don't think it takes "skill" to drive it around on the streets. Does it take skill to drive it hard and not spin out and set decent lap times? Yes, very yes. But I don't come into my driveway and park in the garage every night smiling to myself at the thought of how much skill it took to slow down a bit before I went over the curb.

Post by robertpaige »

I'm just saying not everyone can drive a car 2" or less from the ground and not get stuck everywhere they go, including speedbumps, angled driveways, etc. it does take some "skill" to know to how get out of those situations. And it's worth it to me for my "shitty" car to look the way I want it to.

I absolutely love my car, it handles amazing, drives great and like I said I don't have any issues daily driving it. If I did the car wouldn't be low, it's my daily. I'm not a hater. I think lifting cars is awesome as well. It's not your car, why can't you just respect other peoples style?
