90-93 Legacy Turbo Sedan - Body Differences?

Post by th3band1t »

Alright people I am in a bit of a pickle here. If you are sufficiently versed in the 90-93 Legacy Turbo cars I need your knowledge.

I am picking up a 91 Legacy Turbo. I plan on getting some minor body work fixed and need to order some rear quarters. Problem is the rear quarters for the VIN of the vehicle are no longer available. I have a build date of 07-01-1990. The panels for the 1991+ build dates are available, and so are the wagon panels.

I picked up the one of the last sets of front quarters so those are fine.

My questions for the rear quarters:
1)Besides the move from having a popup antenna on the left rear quarter - are there any MAJOR differences?
-I have no problem going to an aftermarket rear window antenna
2)Are the rear wagon quarters wider? As in I can have them used instead to gain widebody?
-Widebody would be fantastic!

Much assistance is needed, any help in these questions would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the BBS.

Are you in US or Canada or some other place in the world? I ask because the pre and post face lift model years are slightly different. If you can provide us some more information, we can provide further guidance.

89-91 is different than 92-94 in the front and back. In the back, nothing is interchangeable. Front, slightly is, but with some modification.

Wagon quarters wont work for a sedan at all.

CRAP.

I was hoping that they would be somewhat close at least enough to use part of the panel for the rust in the rears. Guess I'm SOL.

If any of you guys come across some panels with part numbers of 51410AA400 and 51410AA420 I'd like to have em!

It's time consuming but you could go to a yard and get some. Drilling out the spot welds isn't very fun but it'll get you a panel.

Local yards around here rarely have Subaru's.

The bigger places like LKQ want gobs of money for panels, and at that point its not really worth it.

The rear quarters you can cut the rust out and weld in a patch ether from a donor car or make one. Make sure you cut out the foam out in that area,(that's the reason for the rust) it is a moisture magnet that the factory used to seal the panels. I've done many times this way and it holds up good.

Thanks for the advice!

Already ordered in the fronts and was just worried about the rears.

Any other spots they used that packing that I should remove it from?

That's the main area that really rust out, and what I did with mine I replaced that foam with windshield urethane to seal it up from the inside after I was done with the repair.

This works well and the non-hardening seam sealer works well too.

Also, GET IT OIL SPRAYED once finished with the body work. That's the #1 best effective way to prevent corrosion from starting and taking hold.

I used "Like 90" in my doors and inside rockers, it's self wicking that means it spreads even up the panel a little.
