Sorry, Im new...and canadian

Post by lumpy_canuck »

New guy to Subaru(sorta). Buddy of mine(BCMAXX on here) has been messing with one for a while. I needed a commuter, and found a grandma driven, low km, 1990 wagon FWD. Originally, was just gonna drive it, clean it up, sell it next spring. Well that lasted until I hit 3rd gear. Outta the box after 25 years, and this thing is blast to drive!!! Now going to be my little project for the spring, and that in shape for beach season. Body overhaul (grandma was hard on this unit), lower it a bit, heavy sway bars, strut braces, slap some 17s on it with some stickier tires, and rail corners. Straight line, all acceleration speed doesn't do it for me as much. But if I canfling this turd into a corner, and know it will stick.........grinning from ear to ear.

Contemplating a turbo build, because a bit of boost IS fun, but I really want to be able to jump in, drive for hours, mess around, and drive home with out extra worries. Plus extensive builds=more time building=less time ripping. hahaha Im sure by the time winter rolls around, BCMAXX will have me sold on a turbo implantation.

Welcome to the forum! Yeah these cars can be a joy to drive. I haven't seen a turbo fwd in a few years, but if you did it, it could be faster due to lighter weight vs an awd.

I'll tell you this... i'd flip it and get an AWD Legacy. Clean it up and all that, and flip it. Personally what i'd do.

Welcome to the BBS!

You could also buy a wrecked AWD model and swap the drivetrain over ;)

What other chassis mods would be required? Fuel tank for sure. Can a back transfer section be swapped onto his 4eat? Or is there vast differences? Everything else is fairly simple to swap. His legacy is in really good condition for a first Gen in out area!!!

It would be easiest to get a donor car with the exact tranny you wanted. I dont know about bolting the back section onto a 4eat. Rear subframe, gas tank, rear suspension, diff, axles, and hub for sure
