1992 Subaru Legacy L AWD

Post by SeanAVL »

Recently came into ownership of a stock 1992 Subaru Legacy L AWD and I'm looking to pull some more power out of it, aswell as work on handling.

What mods have you guys done, what would you recommend, etc? I'm looking to take this out on some windy mountain roads on the weekends.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll start posting photos and stuff when I get back from vacation.

Welcome! Best way to make more power is to sell it and buy the turbo version.

Thanks for the welcome, and trust me I've considered it.

It's just that I got this car from a close friend for $1 and they probably wouldn't appreciate if I just sold it and bought another right away.

I mean I did get it for $1 too, so I have a bigger budget for modifications compared to someone who would have already spent a couple grand on the car.

Keep that car as a DD and buy a turbo version. You'll be lad you haave a back up car for when you start upgrading. The conversion can be done but it isn't worth the hassle.

Thanks for the advice, I've been looking around craigslist for a couple weeks and haven't managed to find a legacy turbo manual, but I'll keep looking.

All the legacies I can find are mid to late 90s with 200k+ miles with no turbo :(, that or they've been thrashed to hell.

There's not a bunch you can do to the non-turbo to get a lot more power out of them. Things like cams and exhaust do help, but the gains are so small in comparison to what you can get to a turbo.

Drop a SBC in it, auto tranny and custom stuff....that'd be badass.
