98 subaru lagacy out back dies when abs engages for braking.

on my 98 subaru out back i have had it die a couple of times on me when i have been driving in slick weather and your making a stop and the ABS system kicks on and after you come to a stop i let the brake off and the car will shutter and die. it starts up just fine, maybe a little sluggishly but seems fine others wise. under normal driving conditions when you applie the brakes it will dim the headlights and the fan motor will slow down like there is a draw on the system. so i am thinking its in the charging system maybe the altornator is not keeping up? any one have any thoughts on this.

That sounds right, take to an auto parts store that does battery/alternator tests.

Also check that the chassis & engine grounds are good.
