How is the quality of your Delta Cams

Post by rallyak »

Every one that has a set how was the quality? I'm really interested to see the quality of the 2.5d cams, which I know that a hand full of people run them on different builds. I've used delta regrinds for years, several hundred over the years working at a machine shop with out a quality issue. All the cams that I've received looked great and you can't even see that they did any work it was awesome, and I've sent some pretty bad cams over the years.

My latest build 2.5d (super slug) in my 90 and sent delta my cams and first time around was a quick return about two weeks. Upon arrival I opened the boxes and was not satisfied with the quality. You can see where they did work, some of the ramps are narrowed in places and lots of porosity in the metal. Sent them back and two months pass and i get them back and the same issues as before. Do people except these? When I send them my cams I expect to not to be able to tell that they repaired the cam.

How is the quality of your cams?

My roommate got a set that were as you described. Poor welds and gaps (missing material ) on the ramps. Will it work? Probably, but it doesn't look professional.

From my memory and from the few pictures I have my Delta Cams looked good. Maybe they have different people there or they've taken a different stance on quality now.

I was really impressed with my cams I just got a few months ago. Like you said in your first paragraph, I couldn't tell where they were changed, no heat marks or anything out of the ordinary, could have passed for OE if I didn't know they weren't.I have installed several sets in various subarus and have been pleased with all of them and haven't scene anything like what you are describing, although im sure it happens.

Years ago, like 5ish, I had cams in my 2.5rs and one of the lobes broke off where they had welded it on. But in my experience that was earlier Delta stuff and they have since stepped their game up. I haven't heard of that happening in years.

I don't know what they suggest for brake in period but I had TONS of metal in my oil after 500 miles. Maybe next time I wont wait so long

My 2.2 cams were flawless, but when they regrind those they don't weld them to make the new profile , they just take it off the base circle on 2.2 cams. But they have no choice on the 2.5d cams and need to be welded to achieve the higher lift and duration, mainly due to not having rockers and the cam needs to be more aggressive than 2.2.

That explains a lot. Learn something new everyday. Is that why the highest 2.2 cams can go up to is 230?

Yeah, that is not good! You've got porosity in the welded sections. Those need to go back.
