Finally found a spring combination I'm happy with. It's GD WRX Prodrive Fronts, and GD STI rears.

Before, with STI springs all around:

After, Prodrive and STI (Sorry, image is mirrored):

After the rebuild, the passenger side head was making a ridiculous racket. To the point where we thought there might be serious bottom end problems! I took out the HLA's and bled them. One was stuck all the way out, and another all the way in. As soon as it warmed up, all valvetrain noise was gone, and the car started pulling like a raped ape! There was a hesitation problem on full load, car would buck, stutter and backfire. That is totally gone now.

Thanks CJ, I know it's a Subaru thing to have mad front wheel gap, but it always bugged me. Front springs are a tad softer than STI, so the car isn't super bouncy like before. Still handles awesome.

Keep forgetting to take a good pic of this. But I like this mod too ;) Sadly, the badge shape/size is unique, so neither my post or pre face turbo badges fit. It's shorter and narrower.

I do like it, but I prefer the ones in the "before" picture. I popped a tire on those, and stole the 6-spokes off my dormant RS.

Glad to hear its running well.
The stuck-open lifter was likely not allowing the valve to close completely. Which, obviously, would have a negative impact on engine performance.

Yeah Ill bet. Scored a hood scoop from my friend originalcyn, and reglued all the studs so this one doesnt fly away too. Been working on the interior.

Still need to roll the front fenders a tad, it rubs a tad if you hit a bump with wheels fully locked.

The Oregon Trail Rally is 2 weeks away and im trying to have the car ready in time..

Still think the FXT scoop might have been interesting. I'm getting ready to paint the 03 STI scoop tonight.

Sold my perfectly good 1991 SS trans and swapped in an 03 WRX tranny. Took my time doing it, and 1st gear was making bad noises as soon as I drove it. Took all of two days to break 1st gear. Of course the seller (from craigslist) was uncontactable, so I guess I got to eat the cost and still get another trans. :(

Lol im not baller enough for that. I've also never broken a tranny either. Mostly looking for another 03-05 or 06-07 trans. Im not sure if there's any good ones left due to how most WRX's 3rd or 4th owners treat their cars :(

You just need to get the 2.5RS together, make it bulletproof, sell the SS and stop worrying about these silly broken transmission problems. ;)

Dscoobydoo, it's the usual hardcore ratios, but 5th gear has been swapped out with a usdm wrx .738. So 3k rpm is ~71-72 mph.

Having owned 2 1991 SS's before this 92, I had always preferred the more aggressive front end. It took me a long time (a couple years) to find a clean hood and cleanish bumper. Having a good friend like Pntaste4evr99 aka Winestone Cowboy helped me realize this dream.

Image
I had pulled a white core support from a junkyard NA prefacelift. When we compared the pre and post core supports, they were nearly identical, down to where the spotwelds were. The major difference was the holes for the headlights. Reusing the post face core support is theoretically possible, but you'll be cutting the holes above and below the lights and getting everything to look "good" after the fact is a lot harder, especially when you have the correct core support.

Image

Old core removed. I was Pntaste4evr99's apprentice for the day, he would show me how to do something and I'd try my best to not screw it up! lol

Image

I left the welding up to the professional. Would love to learn some day, but not on my own car ha ha

Image

Testing fitment of the fenders, hood and a headlight. I had bought spot weld cutters from harbor freight. Pntaste4evr99 made fun because they were about 5mm larger than what the pro's use, so his new spotwelds were ginormous! I spent a bunch of time sanding them down basically flush before primer and paint.

Image

We sprayed a coat on, and went for pizza and beer to let it dry.
