2.5L head gasket
So my car is over heating, I believe it is the head gaskets, one is leaking externally oil or the oil pressure sensor is leaking, making it a little harder to tell on the passenger. On the driver side there is a very small amount of oil. With the car running I cam see bubbles now and then in the over flow tank and I think heavy moister in the exhaust. But how do I now which cylinder head is leaking? And can they be changed in the car or remove the engine?
Re: 2.5L head gasket
I'd recommend pulling the spark plugs and see which plug looks different.
The headgaskets can be changed with the engine in the car, but it's a pain in the butt.

Re: 2.5L head gasket
So far I've taken the passenger side head off, in the car and know I an working on Taking the drivers side off. I forgot to mention that this is the 2.5 DOHC engine. I am also curious about how the FAL-PRO MLS head gasket does that's the best the auto parts store can order in are they any good? Or should I order a different one off line?
Re: 2.5L head gasket
Thank you josh, it's been fun so far the passenger side was not to bad the spark plugs both looked wet and inside the cylinder looks like it was damp. I am just assuming that you should probably change both had gaskets at the same time is this true?
Re: 2.5L head gasket
If the other side isn't leaking it's not mandatory to change it.

Re: 2.5L head gasket
I am having the heads milled and then I am looking at putting the heads back on with Fel-Pro 26167 PT MLS perma tex head gaskets any thoughts on these they sound good.
Re: 2.5L head gasket
Use the Subaru OEM gaskets. The Fel-Pro are known to fail again posthaste.

Always choose oem unless you're putting together a fun car then cometic is what I would use.thatsme87 wrote:I am having the heads milled and then I am looking at putting the heads back on with Fel-Pro 26167 PT MLS perma tex head gaskets any thoughts on these they sound good.

Re: 2.5L head gasket
question on the head gasket....I read on NAUSIOC some of these guys that are building really high power 400 hp motors and up are using pure copper head gaskets...any experience with those and are they recommended?
Re: 2.5L head gasket
I know this is an old post, but regarding the pure copper head gasket, that's BS. Copper has a melting point of 1,984°F, so if copper is being used it's an alloy and/or has steel cylinder sealing gaskets.
What did Nasioc say the benefit of copper was?

Re: 2.5L head gasket
+1 on this IMO. I hate to say, with the EJ25D, if one gasket has gone, the other probably will too. I haven't heard of anyone having enough luck with that specific engine replacing one side and being good to go for a while.cj91legss wrote:

I've been down the same road. Great engine except for that one freaking thing.
