antenna removal?

Post by arse_sidewards »

How do I remove the antenna trim on a base model wagon/sedan with the manual antenna in the A-pillar?

Someone broke the antenna off prior to my ownership and I need to remove the trim in order to figure out how I'm going to repair/replace it.

If you're talking about the black trim between the windshield and front driver's door then you need to remove the door window weather stripping and that should give you access to the screws holding on the black trim piece. If you're talking about the chrome piece where the antenna goes down into you would likely have to pull out the headliner to access the underside of that where screws/bolts attach it to the body. Just an FYI, to get the headliner out you would need to take off the interior side trim pieces....which isn't fun and you'd likely break the interior trim pieces getting them out.

If you want an antenna and don't want to go through all that you could see if you can find an electronic amplified antenna to put in the car somewhere.

Perfect, knowing that it's bolted from the underside is exactly what I needed.

I think I'll try my luck at a $10-20 signal amplifier first since that's easy and at present I get FM, just very poorly.

Do you have any experience with those electronic antenna's Josh? I was wanting to do away with the one on the trunk and use one of those.
