Something smoked and now 1993 turbo wagon wont run.....

Was accelerating and something smoked down in the ECU area and engine shut off.

Turns over fine.

I pulled the ECU and opened it up and using magnifying glass can find ZERO evidence of burn on the board.

Any ideas of what could have smoked that would cause engine to not start?

I need to button wiring back up to check codes.

Check that you’re getting power to the injectors and that you’re getting spark. Is the fuel pump priming?

No harness damage? If you could smell the smoke then there should be soot somewhere.

When you have the ECU in, and have the key in the ON position (engine not running) does the CEL come on? If not, then the ECU is not getting power or is fried. Verify you're getting power to the ECU and the ECU is actually turning on. If it's got power and no CEL then I'd lean towards a smoked ECU.
