Tarantino's a baker

Post by legacy92ej22t »

I was watching Pulp Fiction the other night for the first time since I saw it in theaters and in the part where Bruce Willis's character was going to leave Maurice down with the hill billies but then gets the samari sword instead there is a clock on the wall as he starts back down the stairs. The clock is set to exactly 4:20. I thought this was pretty funny. I'm probably the last one to notice this and the only one who cares or thought it was funny but, um, I did.

lol, this is the first I read this thread. I thought it was about tanantino actually being like a baker, like he enjoyed baking...breads. Man, that was sure dumb.

Haha, really? I just caught the one in the shot I mentioned but I didn't watch the whole movie again. It was on Bravo ( I think) and they were cutting out a lot of it so I quit watching.

Laurel- Hmm, I've never seen it on DVD but I'd like to get it, it's a great movie. Does the special features on the Pulp Fiction disc have any other cool little tid bits?

I have Reservoir Dogs on DVD but it's the initial release and doesn't have any special features. It's widescreen on one side and full on the other. My buddy got Heroe on DVD from China but it has English subtitles. He's going to burn me a copy. I haven't seen the whole movie yet but it seems very cool and artistic for a Kung Fu movie.

Yeah, I read that in a facts book somewhere that all the clocks in that movie are set to 4:20...

Would you believe I saw that movie for the first time only about 3 months ago???? Satellite is great, when it works

He's also wearing an Orbit shirt when Jules and Vincent bring the body to his house. Orbit is (was?) a Detroit publication that had all kinds of funny news, satire, ads for the awesome sex shops around there, and personal ads for people with extreme fetishes.

Well, this is more pastry than bakery, but try this. Red Velvet Cake. It's a chocolate cake but it's red colored. And this is a really good recipe.

Code: Select all

Red Velvet Cake:

  1 cup shortening
  2 eggs
  1.5 cups sugar
  1 tsp cocoa powder
  4 tbsp red food coloring
  2.5 cups cake flour
  1 tsp salt
  1 cup buttermilk
  1 tsp vanilla
  1 tsp baking soda
  1 tsp vinegar

Preheat to 350 degrees.
Cream shortening, eggs, and sugar together in mixer.
In small bowl, mix cocoa and food coloring into a paste.
Add paste to mixer.
Sift flour and salt together.
Add flour mixture and buttermilk, alternating, in 3 steps.
Add vanilla.
Fold in baking soda and vinegar.
Bake for 30 minutes in two 9" round pans.
Prepare frosting while cake bakes.
When cool, assemble 2-layer cake with frosting.

Red Velvet Cake Frosting:

  2 tbsp flour
  1 cup milk
  1 cup butter
  1 cup confectioners' sugar
  1 tsp vanilla

Mix flour and milk and cook over medium heat until thick.
Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla together until fluffy.
Beat in cooled flour and milk mixture.

I've got a recipe from my grandmother. It's a Pennsylvania dutch chocolate cake with homemade chocolate icing.

I made it last July....it's to die for...

Ooh, raspberries! Try these:

Code: Select all

Raspberry Cheesecake Brownies:

  2 oz unsweetened chocolate
  4 oz bittersweet chocolate
  1 stick butter
  1.25 cups + 1 tbsp sugar
  0.75 tsp salt
  1.5 tsp vanilla
  12 tbsp flour
  1.5 cups raspberries

Preheat to 350 degrees.
Melt chocolate with butter in double boiler and let cool.
Whisk in 1.25 cups sugar.
Whisk in eggs, one at a time.
Whisk in salt and vanilla.
Whisk in flour until just combined.
Spread evenly in 13"x9" pan.
Prepare cheesecake batter and spread over brownie batter.
Place raspberries in cheesecake batter and sprinkle with 1 tbsp sugar.
Bake for 35-40 minutes, and chill overnight.

Cheesecake batter:

  8 oz cream cheese
  2/3 cup sugar
  1 egg
  2 tsp lemon juice
  2 pinches salt
  0.5 tsp vanilla
  2 tbsp flour

Cream sugar and cream cheese together until fluffy.
Beat in egg, lemon, salt, and vanilla.
Beat in flour.

Dude, go make these brownies. You don't have to chill them overnight. Believe me. :)

I don't know, Eugene Oregon is pretty festive on 4/20 too. I have friends that went to school in Boulder and they said it was a lot like Eugene but Eugene has better supply. ;)

Supposedly his soul is supposed to be in the case and somehow the bandaid is related. I can't remember the details.

Vikash - yeah that was a typo - pastitsio. I can't make that creamy top layer.
