I posted this on NASIOC but haven't had anyone reply yet. Since this is a specialized Legacy group maybe someone knows here?
I'm about to replace the front wheel bearings and it started me thinking about the bearings that the inner axle shafts mount into within the transaxle, do they ever go out? Same for the rear end in the differential, I've never heard about them going out either. Is there a way to check and see or do you just have to wait for some noise to show up? The car has 230K on the clock and I'm interested to know if that's one of the things down the line I should be concerned about.
Thanks,
Mike
Transaxle Half-Shaft Bearings?

Update
FYI...found out from Subie tech that these bearings rarely go out. If they do you'll see leakage signs on the transaxle or diff housing. They don't get the torsional weight transfer from the wheels and they're also lubricated by the tranny or diff oil so if you change often all the better.
