Oxygen Sensor wiring defined

Post by stipro »

Is the white wire on the O2 sensor the signal wire? And to test the sensor I guess all I have to do is ground the negative on my multimeter and probe the signal wire, after warming up the car, for a near correct voltage? I that right

Yes, the white wire is the signal wire, on both sides of the connector..

And yes, you can measure the sensor's signal as you describe. You won't see a certain voltage -- you'll see a certain behavior. The signal should bounce up and down, kind of centering around half a volt.

If you have the means, hooking up my scantool is another way to monitor the oxygen sensor signal, as well as a bunch of other stuff..

Oh, and you can also measure the signal at the ECU instead of at the sensor. The wire is white at that end as well.
