some dumb@$$ tried to steal my wagon
my wife went out to go to work and the car was moved 20 feet away and in the driveway of our building complex w/the bottom dash torn up and the rear passenger door open with our stuff scattered all over inside the car.
it started ok. and their appears to be minimal damage. i am so pissed off right now.
and as far as i can tell nothing was stolen but it was dark (they smashed the domelight and ripped out the wires for the dash wiring) and it was starting to rain a nice freezing rain on me.
thank god for the annoying steering lock and the fact that the tank was on E.
we didnt lock the car due to the forcast for the freezing rain. our car is notorious for freezing up and not letting us in. plus i would rather have someone just open the door as opposed to smashing the windows. but who knows they may hve moved on if it was locked. but then they would have moved on to my SS.
not sure on the motive but i would imagine it was for the hell of it and when they saw the tank was empty they decided not to bother or someone drove by and spooked them.

Buy a gun, Greg. Make your New Year's Resolution to refuse to become a victim in 2005. Or barring that, find out who the tweekers are around you; they probably had a hand in it. The wagon, sadly, is only a commodity to someone who needs quick cash for a stolen car.

Doesn't matter if he has a rocket launcher - a gun doesn't help if he doesn't catch the assholes.

uh-oh! I feel a speech/rant/op-ed coming on....!
My best friend, who's semi-autistic, (Asperger's Syndrome) knows anything and everything regarding guns, gun control, and stats. Seriously, if a robber/criminal/felon/rapist/priest enters your home with an ill-intent, he's not planning for you having a firearm.
In fact, even if he/she is carrying their own firearm, legal or not, they don't really want to use it, either.
They're out for your goods, not your life.
Murder is messy, not to mention high-stakes. Even if they're desperate and strung out on God-knows-what, they still know that whatever it is of yours that they want (they came for a reason, right?) it's probably not worth getting into a gunfight over it. When you confront them with anything, even a golf-club, their mindset changes. It becomes a battle they didn't expect.
Now what happens when you have a gun? Well.. first, turn on a light. You don't wanna be one of those guys that the liberals quote as having shot one of his family members in the dark, thereby becoming a gun-control statistic gone wrong. That's fucked up. What happens is that YOU now are in the legal and moral position to defend your house and family with lethal force and extreme prejudice. How could you afford not to?
Sure, people say "Call 911! The cops take care of everything!"
But you can't spare even the (WORLD RECORD) 3 minutes it will take the police to arrive at your residence. (if you live in an apt, you said complex, then it takes longer.) Think about how long 3 minutes really is when you've got a stranger in your house. It passes by slowly, and in high-adrenaline sitauations such as a home-invasion, shit happens fast.
Let me tell you, when it comes to fast, even a turbo wagon can't defend your household at greater than 500fps. Lethally.
Now, say they are trying to steal the wagon. I have three articles from my local newspaper, from the police blotter section reporting car-thefts, etc. foiled by armed citizens. In one case, a man(55+ citizen, too!) actually beat the fuck out of some crackhead trying to steal his stereo,(out of his vintage caddy) causing the would-be-thief a ruptured spleen, kidney damage, and various broken upper-body bones.
What happened?
No charges filed. The crackhead went to the hospital, got did up, and then went to jail. Didn't pass go, didn't collect. Went straight to jail. In all cases, (there were only three anyhow, this year) the bad guys went to jail, and the good guys who defended their shit got a pat on the back from the cops.
Just my .02

Lets not turn this into a gun possesion argument. I left out my comments to your original gun post to prevent this sort of thing.
Feel free to start another thread, but I would edit out your comments for now. You can't make people do things... and he doesn't want a gun. So the argument should end there. I'm sure he has thought it through at some point in his life. Respect that decision.

not owning a gun does not make me a willing victim.91legacy_sleeper wrote:I do respect his decisions. Sorry, that did come off very zealous, in hindsight. I personally don't advocate willing-victim-status.
leaving my car doors unlocked made me a willing vicitm.
but as i said i would rather have them nicely open the doors rather than smash a window just to steal a crappy pioneer radio. never dreamed someone in Fargo ND would want to steal my old rusty wagon.
still not sure on the motive as they took nothing. they even had the 80 dollar torque wrench out from where i kept it but didnt take it. and took no cds. didnt take my wife's jacket. didnt take anything except the bulb to the dome light and mess up my lower dash and screw up my fog light switch and tear up the wiring. didnt take the expensive jumper cables. or the hiking boots.
just moved the car and made a mess of everything and generally fouled up my day.

that would be the best option i would imagine. i would like to hope this was a one time random thing but who knows.dzx wrote:Get yourself one of those car alarms that pages you when your car is getting broken into and a stun gun or baseball bat. Weird. Crack heads would take anything and everything. I wonder whatthey wanted. My sister's Maxima was broken into and they stole all her CDs which were in a book, (not the cases so they couldn't even sell them on half.com) and a shitty $100 Aiwa stereo, smashing the console in the process. Its the CDS that bothers her as they're expensive to replace and worth almost nothing resale. Good thing they were in a hurry or got spooked since if they had spent the time to get in the trunk they could've grabbed a couple hundred $ in clothes and shoes. I'm nearly positive I know who did it, but I have no proof and she disagrees with me on it, so I have to leave it alone. This kid's a drug monkey, too.
I totally agree with the door open thing, though, I had my ex start doing that with her Monte SS just so they wouldn't do so much damage next time they broke in. Funny thing is, they never stole anything after she starting leaving unlocked!

Word. . . I almost never keep any original CDs or DVDs in my car. Everything's burned, so in the astronomically-small chance someone broke into the STee, they'd have a bunch of nice media to take (not really, most of it's on my Keg under the seat) but at least I wouldn't be out any money for things inside the car.
Also, I do my best to keep almost ZERO things in the car of value. Even some things that are in there that are of value are always kept out of sight. Helps to keep a clean car. . . if a thief looks in the windows, they're not tempted by what they can't see . . . . much.

Wow, seems your little car shop wires up just about everything, huh?
One question, though: Is your tap the stock knob and shifter from the 'STee'?
