i dint do my class i knoow but i would like to try this mod i got a legacy 94 turbo.
someone as to make this mod as a HOW TO
with picture that would be so awesome

Why not connect the manual mode switch to both the manual mode input on the TCU and the power mode input?
Meaning when the manual mode button was pressed you'd be in both power and manual.
When the shifter is in D manual mode would have no effect but power would be working. I assume that in 2 the car would stay in second and in three the car would stay (mostly) in third.
Does power or manual mode have any effect when the gear selector is in 1?

I have an idea for a really simple full line pressure modification.
I remember reading an old end wrench article that said if the duty solenoid A fails then line pressure will always be maximum. Why don't we just clip the line to this solenoid?
We already know that "failing" duty solenoid C will result in center differential lockup and this is the same type of mod
I think it also said if you fail shift solenoid three you'll have engine braking in ever gear.
Edit: I was searching around for said document and found this
I think a three way switch is in order. You could have the two positions listed here and a third that "grounds out" the TCU while sending 12 volts to duty solenoid C for FWD.

ciper,
Legacy777 unplugged the 'dropping resistor'/duty A and thinks it fubar'd his tranny (back before his 5-speed swap).
EDIT: dropping resistor and Duty A are 2 different parts....see below. Mr. Ciper showed me the light.
The SVX guys do this mod, too.....I need to see if it causes long-term issues.
There is a custom resistor
HERE that I might try.....or not>>>.
EDIT: Just found
this on
http://www.subaru-svx.net:
"I called my local Subaru dealership and they told me that the SVX and the Legacy dropping resistors are different.."
thanks,
TD

Unplugging the dropping resistor and the Duty Solenoid A arent the same thing
I tried unplugging the resistor before and didn't like how it screwed with engine braking.
I also tried using a resistor of a different value which helped some while keeping the car nearly stock. Check the date of this thread
http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=125
I don't care about comfort anymore. If unplugging the thing runs full pressure for shocktastic shifts I'm totally down.

My Bad....you're right - 2 different parts.
Found this in
Endwrenchon the 4EAT:
The dropping resistor is wired in parallel with duty
solenoid A, and is used to regulate line pressure.

Wow, way ahead of your time....and that sounds just like what the SVX Custom Resistor is doing.

Hmm... Wired in parallel? I wonder if thats really the case (endwrench has been wrong before). If that is I wonder if unplugging the dropping resistor somehow overdrives that solenoid bank?

Went to switch the #6 pin wire to #4 pin on my TPU. Took me a bit but figured out which wire was supposed to go where yadda yadda. but I cant get the #6 pin wire (teal w/yellow) loose from the connector. I have a set of "OEM wire extractors" (pretty much just long jewelers screwdrivers you slide into the connector) But im still not getting it loose.
How are you guys pulling the wire from the connector? (I feel like a total dork for asking this BTW)

Ok, so sorry to dredge this up from two years ago, but Mike-tracy and I were discussing this. And as far as I can tell, there's no reason this shouldn't work on a L, LS, or LSi, is that the case? I thought I read that someone thought it didn't work for N/A TCUs? But wouldn't the TCU be the same?
Anyways, for my own selfish verification, does the power mode mod work on post facelift N/A versions of the legacy?
Thanks!

^I would think they'd work too.....anything '92+ should work....that INCLUDES the '95+ stuff (check this
LINK to the Ultimatesubaru.org site). I've read they still had the Power Mode, just not the light, and has the same place to 'ground the pin' @ the TCU.
The NA and Turbos both have the Power Mode...so Why Not?

Yeah, that's what i'm thinking too. And mike-tracy showed me the svx and 2nd gen legacy stuff. I just haven't heard anyone say they've done it successfully on a N/A. Everyone who has pulled it off here seems to have an ss or tw.

I can verify that it does work on N/A cars as I did it to mine. I have a turbo motor swapped in, but the trans is original to the (L wagon) car . Its holding up nicely, too (knock wood).

So wait.
thats a no for the 91 ss for this mod? i guess im out of my element when it comes to electric wiring and what not.
im confused about what drive the car would be in when in reverse. As well as maybe someone whose done this a pics or a how to kinda thing would be cool
thanks

^Correct - In my experience, the '91 Turbo TCU did NOT support the Power Mode Override switch as described here. I swapped in a '93 Turbo TCU and it DID work.
Pretty sure it'll work on any any NA/Turbo TCU from '92+.
This thread describes How To, please read from the beginning. Go back to page 1 of this thread and click b3lha's link to the SVX Network. Nomake Wan has put up good pictures.
And I don't know what you're asking:::??
im confused about what drive the car would be in when in reverse.

Im sorry that was vague. um .. im asking if the car would be in while in reverse or would it be awd. i understand how the awd system works with the auto. usually 50/50 thru the first two gears then a 90/10 split for the last two. if the car is in reverse whats the ratio

Ok, so the power SWITCH doesnt work or the grounding out a4 doesnt work?
i would love this mod.

Thanks! This is exactly the verification i was looking for!

This Thread describes two different things, I believe.
1. Using the MANUAL button on the Auto's shift lever (not avl. on newer models) as a SWITCH for the Power Mode.
2. Wiring in the Power Mode.

never mind, it wont work on the 91 ss tcu.
ill have to take a look around the local scraper.
Any body got a spare 93 2.2 turbo tcu they would be willing to part with?

?same 4eats right?

Typically the turbo and non-turbo TCU's are different.....they may work, but just want you to know that typically they are different.
