thank you!
i used a panel adhesive to bond the scoop section to the n/a hood, since the scoop was from a 06 lgt, which has a aluminum hood and the BC hood is steel. The body shop made it look like subaru put it there from the factory tho....

Ya well it looks awesome. I welded the base of the GC8 2.5 RS scoop into my SS hood. Slowly welded bit by bit to avoid overheating, after 2 solid days of Mig welding tacks it's still got crazy warped. Oh well, I figure it out. Worth it in the long run since I just have a TMIC for now, plus obviously it looks bad ass. I think the LGT one looks super clean though.
Well Played Sir

I was thinking the same thing. I'm replacing my quarter panels the way the hood was done—cut the opening, flange the edges, fit the piece, drill holes, epoxy, rivet, filler, paint. No welding necessary and the result should be more corrosion resistant (and the only way possible with dissimilar metals in the case of his hood).

So you're using the epoxy where most use bondo? That's a good idea because I've seen scoops bondo'd on and they always crack.

It's an autobody epoxy that makes the bond—think of it as chemical welding (though it's more like gluing). It's used to replace welding for body panel replacement and such. The rivets are there to get everything to press tightly together. The epoxy that squeezes out the edges also helps to protect the edges from corrosion. The Lotus Elise chassis is bonded and riveted. You would use body filler to clean up the edges and get a smooth surface. I'll be using flush countersink rivets to keep everything as clean as possible to begin with.

made some progress in the last few days, I am fabricating the entire rotated mount setup vs buying a kit. Also decided to approach the intercooler pipes differently then I normally build them. Usually I buy 90 deg mandrel bends and cut them to get the angles I need then weld them together, this time im taking a much more time consuming approach. I am using pie cuts, which are small pieces of pipe with a 5 deg cut on each side. combining these you can make what ever degree bend you want. the upside is that its very precise and looks really cool, the downside is the amount of cutting, fitting and welding required. I figured, might as well go the extra mile with this project since the rest of the car is built top notch.
heres the pics so far, enjoy!
old setup, new turbo

all stripped down, turbo mocked up in position. decided to run the pressure pipe under the manifold

was able to use a piece of pressure hose from a 2nd gen DSM intercooler that I had laying around

start of the first pipe

first pipe all done

mocking up the intercooler to throttle body pipe

let the welding commence

current state of completion
Next will be the downpipe, then just putting everything else back together.... More pics tomorrow most likely

Since i did all of the above post on tuesday, and didnt post it, ive made more progress so here it is!
well, car runs again. Needs to be tuned, ill prob start working on that this weekend. Dave came over today and helped me finish up all the other stuff, coolant lines, fuel lines, wiring etc. I tossed the ecu in and it started on the 550 map I put in it, but obviously ran rich since the injectors are 800cc. I did away with the stock fuel lines and made a setup like what you can buy aftermarket so all the injectors get the same volume of fuel instead of factory that puts #4 as the last cyl to get fuel. Still need to decide on a spot for the bov and weld that flange on, but that's minor.
Also cut/ground all the casting marks off my intake manifold and painted it wrinkle black. Used a 05 sti coolant tank and a 06 LGT p/s resivor to make the install a little cleaner. got the dp painted and wrapped in heat wrap, bolted right up like it belonged there.
heres a few finished pics, minus the bov I need to add.
also added 11mm 09 sti oil pump, sti p/s pump, wrx p/s lines, wrx t belt tensioner bracket, with small 5th idler pulley, and 05 LGT timing belt.
Im officially rotated

Thats alotta welding. Where do you find the time?
Is the turbo going to be okay at that angle?
Manifold looks good.

I've been following the build of your wagon and you sure have a magnificent one in looks as well as in the mechanical side of it all. Keep up the good work and in keeping us posted.
I did have questions about two things on your car:
1--Why did you select the BPM muffler? If it's based on performance, I'd like to know more about how it is superior to other mufflers;
2--Would you mind giving us details and pics of the Lexus spoiler you now have?
Thanks!
