I've got the initial mold done... Now for a teensy touch up or two and we'll be making a scoop next week.. I have to go to st. louis this week on business, but I'll be hard at it next weekend! Here's the progress so far! Trust me, it looks so good in person!

I picked up the necessary fiberglass supplies yesterday to do final adjustments on the body mold.. I'll be making my first scoop by friday... So neener neener.

Well, I laid the last of the fiberglass on the mold to make it stronger today. I've a teensy bit of prepping and I'll be ready to pull a first scoop, I'm sure I'll have to perfect it some... it's just the way I am, but it's going to be soooo worth it!

The hard part is getting all these compound curves to look just right and measure out as perfect as possible... I've got that down... Now I'm going to have to work on the mounding surface, once I smooth out the scoop.

It's getting soooo close!

Oh and I still dont have a computer, or I'd be able to update with pics much faster, but hey, I'm buying subaru materials... That's much more productive than a digital camera and a computer!

Well, it looks like I'll be making my first scoop soon, I did some sanding on my mold to get rid of rough spots on the edges and then used a bit of resin to fill in the bubbles. I'll most likely wet-sand it tomorro to finish off the resin patches...

What's left to do:

1. Finish primary mold *1-2 days*
2. Cast first scoop *1-2 days*
3. Fit scoop to hood, apply final adjustments.
4. Prep and paint scoop
5. Take master-mold of final scoop design
6. Put up pictures and take orders...
7. MAKE LOTS OF SCOOPS!

Oh and the mold is looking great. So things are going very well!

And also, shaping fiberglass is FUN, it the itching part that blows.

I had to work late on friday and all of sunday, so I didn't get everything I wanted to get done, BUUT I did get the mold nearly prepared for the first scoop!

I've just a little bit more sanding and perfecting.. then primer, paint! And we'll be ready to knock out the first scoop!

I picked up more supplies too, so I've fewer and fewer excuses for not being done..

I hope you guys like it! I've got a fair bit of time and effort into it, and the only way I'd let you guys put my work on your cars, would be if I'd put it on mine... and I wont put it on mine unless it's damn near perfect!

Once I lay the glass in, getting the proper thickness and let it set up, I'll have a jig for six studs that locate and hold them in place, allowing me to mold them into the stock mounting position.

Will I be able to have my woman get me one for Christmas?

lol, if she has paypal, it'd sure help! I think once I make the first one and post pics, I'll start a list and start taking payment. I've a few names now, but the build order will happen in payment order.


I hope to offer these continually! I'm thinking if these turn out well enough, I'll make the post facelift scoops next and then first gen legacy side skirts.

I can't be too hard on myself, I'm not a body-guy and I'm making fiberglass Subaru parts, and I won't do this half-assed.

Here we go... THE scoop... it needs a few teensy touch ups... and I'm ready to produce my FINAL mold and MAKE SCOOPS! Once produced successfully and to a high standard, I'll be taking payments...

It's got some bubbles and some rough spots... I'm going to do the touch ups here throughout the week, then make a silicone mold, so it releases my scoops without any problems..

*Note* I haven't cut out the opening yet. I'm waiting to do that AFTER I'm finished the touchups and produce the mold, so I can make the mold just like this with touchups.....

I think silicone will be a good mold, it releases very easy due to flexibility... and with it's resiliant, I dont have to repair the damned mold...
