well i know they tried a tcu out of a subie they had there for parts and still did the same thing. the owner said the ecu tells tcu when to shift. they spent 4 days checking all the wiring and re checking the wiring it all tests good. so if the ecu dont's work i'm selling the car

The ECU doesn't tell the TCU when to shift. The TCU controls the shifting by itself. It receives certain inputs from the ECU or other sensor, like engine rpm, vehicle speed, and throttle position. Other than that, the TCU does its own thing.

I completely understand your frustration.....wish you could find a shop that could properly diagnose the problem.

i'm out of money. if the wiring is good sensors are new then it should shift right. they tried a another tcu and still did the same. none of the codes will clear. still has a tps code maf code vss 1 code and o2 code. i tried all day to clear them just like your print offs said to do and nothing worked. if the new ecu doesnt help i'm done

If you have a code for the TPS make sure to is all the way seated and your are geting proper readings at the plug. Had mine unplugged and started having tranny problems.

Are there any members nearby that could look at it, or have you already been down that route?

The best thing I could recommend is towing it to Greg at Slodrive... Maybe save some money up for it and everything, I've been through this same problem and spent over 1300$ and two months at a shop that couldn't fix it... Towed it to gregs and had it fixed it under a day at a fraction of what I had paid

Heck I ALMOST flew josh from Texas out here to fix it before I was referred to Greg who was local at least

I would second Alex's recommendation....if you have the time and money to get it to Greg for him to look at, that's probably your best option.

Ugh I hate these electrical diagnosing problems.... I almost threw the towel in too and almost sold/parted the car out, but I borrowed a car for a month from a family member and saved up to take it to Greg and hasn't broke since then... It sucks but these issues some shops/people just cannot fix. Even Chris(92coloradosubie) or whatever it is blew his engine and had to borrow money from rents and use a car for a month plus and he's going up to gregs on Thursday finally. Your car is def worth fixing with all the money you have into it recently, if your tapped now hit up a family/good friend for a loan possibly or borrow/rent a car cheaply until you can save enough

well another ecu is on the way. still getting tps code on both the ecu and tcu. the idle is bouncy and running rich. but not super rich. the shop thinks the circuit that controls the tps is toasted

You will get a TPS code if it is not adjusted right. Have you adjusted it to FSM Spec? I highly doubt the TPS circuit is bad.

TCU won't have a TPS code, so i'm not sure what you meant there.

Since youre so far into the car with money, I wouldnt give up just yet. There A LOT you can do to troubleshoot that doesn't require money, or little of it.

tps is with specs using a multi meter. the tps is tied into the tcu and it does show a code for tps. it idles at 2200 rpm runs a lil rich and the shift points are way high. all sensor under the hood are new. wiring under the hood to all the sensor are good. and the wiring from the ecu to the engine bay is good.

well next week i'll decide if the subie stays or goes. new ecu is in car runs. still getting a tps code still wont shift. still has a high idle. they want to check the timing and the harness for the tps. if those are still good and still running crappy then i'm done. if some one in colorado wants to buy it then i'll let ya know next week.

i'm wondering if i should take the subie to the trans shop. this thing has some nasty torque bind i just use it to go to the local store and thats it. i mean if you paid 2300 for a trans rebuild it should work right. hell should i try a tcu with this new ecu?

well the subie maybe up for sale tuesday. the shop said they put enough time and effort into the car and they plan to give up monday. the dash is torn out and checking all the wiring from the fire wall to ecu. they did noticed some one did a hack job installing a car alarm.

Unfortunately, it's those hack job wiring jobs that just cause so much problems later in a car's life :(
