Interesting - thanks guys.

I'll have to ping them to find out if the chip will work with the MBC...smartly I ripped out the stock system a while back...

I may make the trip up there this Spring and get tuned on a chip just for my set up and call it good.

Adam, if you're going to spend the money on getting the chip and you've already dropped the money you have for a good turbo and setup - just buy another boost control solenoid and pressure sensor. The boost will be controled much better through the chip than with your MBC and you'll net better results. You've gone a long ways not to half ass your mods so far, don't start now ;).

You may be able to use WRX components, but I'm not positive on that.

This is all assuming you didn't rip out the wiring harness and instead just pulled out the components.

I guess I never thought about it but I am a cheap shit...except for my car <grin> No, I was under the impression that the stock boost system couldn't handle higher boost levels but I guess that's not quite right...if the ECU is telling it to boost higher then it will do so and do so more accurately? This is a bit of paradigm shift for me I guess...Wonder what I did with those stock parts???

Keep the input coming!

Sure would be fun to run antilag and shoot fire out of the tailpipe but I doubt I'll ever be that into it.

Cheers!

This is mikes reply from a simular question I had
The ECU's boost control algorithm allows for a much faster spool-up than the MBC. Basically, you can think of it as a variable MBC. We've set it up so that under full throttle, the ECU will "crank up" the duty cycle until boost target is reached.
Also, they've set up a forum http://forum.revtronix.com

i can't wait for stage 2  to be properly done because that's what will really pump her up. it's putting out 11-12 psi right now.
stage 1 doent even use an intercooler and it's setup for the vf11

Got any data to back that up? ;) By the seat tuning and performance analysis is... quite subjective.

no, i dont have any data until you come up here so i can blow the doors off you
just kidding. if someone was willing to hook up 80cdn i would go have it dyno'd with and without the chip though.

i'm not bullshitting, if it was shit i would tell you guys it was shit. but it's not and it feels alot better.

me and my dad found and open stretch of highway the other day. he's got a 92 tw. were both i/c'd, exhaust ect.ect. he's got 112k i got 130k, he has a td05 i got the 04, he's 8lbs wastegate, i'm stock. oh yeAH AND I AM 120 LBS HEAVIER THEN HIM. SORRY for the caps.

anyways we both punched it at the same time and i pulled a little faster and crept ahead a couple lengths. now that i'm chipped, i have full confidence that i would slaughter him. however if he gets chip'd, i think i'll be going into hiding until i find another turbo

just got back from picking up the wife and just wanted to say how much smoother the car drives, it feels like the new wrx i tested the other day. smooth and fast. i think i hit 100 in about 6 seconds now. i'm going to give the chip back soon and patiently wait for the proper stage 2 i should be using. i'm scared i'm going to blow my 17 year old 4eat to hell

TD04 Testing update

I'm scheduled to get the Stage 2 - TD04/TMIC/440cc/etc tune this weekend........

HOWEVER, I'm having an undiagnosed boost issue that will likely make the tune applicable to only my car. :(

I just discovered that I'm already running the newer/lighter spring TD04 Wastegate Actuator and still getting 12 psi @ the WG (should be <10 psi)....so Revtronix won't be able to use mine as a tester.

UPDATE -02/09/09: Mike @ Revtronix now thinks this is common w/the EJ22T/ TD04 and larger exhaust/downpipe.

If you have any suggestions, please see my new Thread HERE.

I'll be curious to see how this works out for you and what they can do to work around the overboost issue. I still think your chip should be representative of what the stage 2 chip will offer due to the fact they'll still set it up to run the same boost levels. They're just going to control it a little differently.

Are you still going to go the dyno afterwards?

mike threw some numbers at me, they finished it but forgot to tighten down the i/c to throttle body clamp and were seeing around 14 psi, mike said dyno results on the 14psi were
180whp / 205tq. that being said, sti's put down 180-200 whp on the same dyno!

with the hose clamp tight at 16.5 psi i think the stage 2 guys will be taking on lightly modded sti's.

i'll let mike chime in on more details, i'll have stage 2 soon

RJ beat me to it.

The Stage 2-TD04 chip is about 99% ready. Mike wants to finalize some settings w/another guy running a TD04.

I will add that my car is running well and quick. :D

Those STI numbers seem a bit on the low side, since a 2008 STI is suppose to make 305hp@6000rpm. Granted, that's not WHP, but even still... Examples of dyno charts:
  1. Stock WRX STi dyno figure with graph (ok, missing graph, but users stating 260whp on 91 octane).
  2. PERRIN 2008 STI Dyno Results 230 whp, 270 ft-lbs.
  3. 2008 Subaru Impreza Wrx Sti Baseline Dyno Results 223 WHP 250 TQ.
