Another Satisfied Customer. :D

I have the VF39/STi 550's tune and car is running great! Highly recommended.

The 4>>2 channel mod (Thanks to PhyrraM) to make EJ20 ECU work w/the stock coil pack isn't too bad, even w/my 'resistance' to wiring. ;-)

IMHO, this is the next step up after doing the basic 'No EM required' mods.

Soooo, whats the deal? I have pretty much everything I need besides a couple banjo bolts and a robtuned ECU and ignition converter.

I've been patiently waiting for like 6 months.

Any updates!? I want to get all this stuff put on/in my car soon! :)

are you running the td05 turbo?
Why only 11psi? and are you using his ignition converter thing also?

How big of a difference in power did you notice?

yes td05, 510cc, fmic, 3" exhaust, apexi intake, jecs maf,aem truboost, dohc swap
i think thats it for power mods

only 11psi because thats where i had it on the stock ecu and the drift event i went to was mostly second gear so 18psi wasn't really needed.

i made my own 4>2 converter following THIS

having 7400rpm was so much nicer then 6500 haha. 2nd gear with the r180 3.90 diff at 7400rpm is just over 100kph

as for power, fuck ya! haha on a second gear corner i tossed it in third and the car didnt bog down like it would have before, rpm kept climbing and started to make a shit ton of tire smoke hahaha

I finally had Mikeymeyagi help me install my Rob tuned ecu I bought a while back. I am amazed at what a dramatic improvement this has made. I am running a vf34 turbo with 2.5 heads and on the stock ecu I had issues with running rich and having backfires and crappy idle. Fuel cut spoiled the fun on the highway too. Now it is a whole new animal and I am so grateful that this tune is available for my setup. Anyone that is considering this purchase should go for it. my car feels much smoother and with the 6 speed I can beat on it with confidence knowing that my tune and drivetrain can handle it. Thanks a million Rob, you do amazing work!

Not really. I am just trying to keep up with orders and email questions. Hopefully things slow down sometime soon so I can work on more development.

People are running my converter and the EJ20G tune successfully so I have put the EJ22T ECU tunes on the back (well way back) burner.

Hey Rob, since you're here... :)
I'm thinking about getting/running on one of your ecu's pretty soon, within the next year that is.

My question is, do you have or is there a fairly concise write up about the features of your ecu tune? Like what mods it supports, and the supporting mods I'll need, etc. I will do my due diligence before jumping into it, but if you have a spec sheet and or links to threads related, I'll get started on the reading and research. Thanks in advance.

I got my 550s and a vf40 so gonna buy a ecu from Rob soon. I also have a set of 25d heads i was gonna put on all at the same time but am hesitant over the drop in compression but it sounds like you guys enjoy it so i'll go with it. Where can i get a set of ej20k cams though?

I know that I and @ least one other picked 'em up on NASIOC...also check out RS25.com.

Talk to Rob about low CR timing. If you're running the EJ22T/EJ25D w/the EJ22T head gasket, you'll likely want it.

Re: EJ20G "RobTune" Info DYNO NUMBERS

Post by dscoobydoo »

It has been a long wait, but I have some dyno numbers.
I am not going to post the graph because I had some issues during the pull, and it caused fluctuations in the graph lines.
This has nothing to do with the converter, and the tune was the stock 20G tune.
Rob and I will be checking out what was causing the issues in the coming weeks.

215 peak HP at redline (6700) and 240 ft/lbs at 3500 on 14.5 lbs boost

Now, realize that I have the JDM 16G , 440 injectors, full 3 inch exhaust and an AWIC that is overkill (3x the stock JDM one in the size of the heat exchanger)

So that none of these items became a limiting factor in power.

For comparison:
my bone stock 2005 STI made 260/260
and my other legacy with 565's, the 06 TMIC, PP6, 3 inch exhaust on 18 lbs boost made 225/275
But my other legacy tells you that it is too much for the bone stock heads in the way it drives.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, that being said, I think the JDM 440s/16G and at least a 2.5 exhaust and a really good IC is probably that max that the 2.2T engine will handle on the stock heads.

But mathematically, you are running close to the same power to weight ratio as 04-on WRX's

Are you saying that the power you put down is max the stock heads will handle with those particular mods, or the max power in general that those heads will handle?`

Based on the differences between my two legacies on how the engine performs, I think the 215/240 numbers are pretty much the max or very close to the max that you will get on the stock heads.
My white car pushes out a little bit more with a bigger turbo and injectors, but I can't always full throttle it as it bogs, and even the dyno plots seem to say the heads are the only limiting factor.
The 2.2t engine was built for the US market and we like torque. The torque numbers are pretty good, but the HP numbers fall compared to my EJ255 and EJ257 engines in the other cars.

So unless someone wants to donate some 20G heads, this car is pretty much done.

While I agree the heads are probably the major limiting factor with these motors, I don't feel those numbers are the "max" power you can get out of them. I made 242 hp / 280 ft-lbs to the wheels on a stock motor. On that specific dyno that's about 8 hp shy of 300 chp and close to 330 ft-lbs crank torque.

http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/s ... _dyno2.jpg

What you can tell from the plot is that the power does drop off at the higher rpms and that is most certainly a function of the head design, including the cams. I have Delta's 220 grind with the new motor, so I'm anxious to see how they help. I've heard good things about them. If I wanted to get into things further I could have p&p'd the heads....but I didn't feel that was necessary for the power goal I was shooting for on this motor.

What will eventually happen is that you will just not make as much hp with the same given equipment with these heads, vs. other heads that have a better design. As the power increases you'll lose more efficiency and will reach a point of diminishing returns, but I think that's going to be above the 300 wheel hp level.

That's my two cents...

Since every engine and every dyno are different, we can argue numbers all day.
But I am going to say that I pretty much agree with you on the numbers, but I am going to go with adding a variable of around 20% HP either direction.
