Don't forget, I have rebuilt everything that came out of this car, ready to sell including the engine, would sell it all for $5000 at this point, engine, trans Front and rear crossmembers, seats, doorcards, driveshafts, original gold rims with new tires, steering rack, new brake calipers, slotted rotors, rebuilt knuckles with factory wheel bearings and seals, I have spent a lot of money and time rebuilding these parts so someone can quickly rebuild their car and believe me, this may sound like a lot of money but there are a heap of new factory parts, it's a cheap way to get all you need to rebuild a car :)

So how much of the parts that are going back on the car are brand new vs. rebuilt? For example the gas tank, filler piping, brake lines, etc. Did you clean/repaint everything or did you just buy new stuff?

Well, all the door seals, outer trim pieces, knuckles, brakes, and a lot of the clips that hold the trim and brake lines and fuel lines on are new. The steel lines that run through the car for fuel and brakes are used, as is the window wiper mechanism and the fuel filler neck and lines that bolt to it. Most of the interior will be used parts. The Engine is basically new, it had been run but most likely just on a Dyno. The transmission will be the only Mechanical part of the car that is used, most of the car will be new. That being said, I did rebuild everything off this car for someone else to use in a future restoration, good original parts are very hard to find now so one day these will help a project.
The headlights, grill, rear garnish, wiper motor, front windshield, fuel pump, senders on tank, wheels, and fenders, drivers door and door glass, two rear bumper covers and three front bumper covers are all new. The rear diff is Suretrac and came with the Trans is used this trans is from a 2001 impreza STI type RA and I wanted this specific trans because of the Suretrac diffs and the fact it had non DCCD center differential, it has a viscous diff, my car will never be used on gravel etc so I did not want DCCD

I have not decided, I was trying to track down a VF15 that I had heard about, however I could not find it, also it was designed to run with the restrictor, so I would have some questions regarding it's use. I have not got to the point where I am looking at turbos closely yet, for this project. The only real reason to want to use the VF15 would be the Heritage to the group A Legacy, it would be cool to keep it period correct

The restrictor is only bolted on the cover, so it would not be a problem, I recently acquired a used Vf15 from Japan, It is a piece of Legacy WRC history and a good chance it was one of Mcrae's turbo, I own a 1992 Liberty RS I have had it since new, It still puts a  on my face everytime I drive it, which is about once every 2 months.

I will try and post pics of the Vf15 turbo soon.

I am in awe of this car. Looking awesome.

Also love the Possum Bourne connection. I have a model I picked up while in australia of one of his GC Impreza rally cars. The man was amazing.

Also, I know Josh asked this already, but can you find the rear quarter triangle trim? Mine broke, so I got some off another member and they had the stud broken off too. Then I finally gritted my teeth and went to order from the dealer and they are no longer available......

VF15 Legacy WRC turbo pics.

Post by spikey »

Here are the pictures of the VF15 turbo, the cartridge is different to the normal IHI turbo, and the blade are in amazing condition even after using Antil lag system on the rally cars, i guess that is why they cost 10000 pounds from Prodrive in the Legacy era 1990-1994, these turbo were never sold to the public, exclusively for WRC duties only.

Curious who your source was for the transmission? I am in the hunt for something similar (but with the DCCD) for my rally car. Would much rather have the short ratio 4.44 5-speed over a 6-speed.

Pretty common problem. I've bought two now from two different members both promising me they were not broken and guess what, they were both broken. Not happy about that. I've been reluctant to try buying one from another forum member since and I'm sick of it flapping in the wind. The junkyard is failing me as well but hopefully sooner or later I'll find one.

For now, I just said 'fuck it' and put a trim screw through the top corner to keep it from flapping around.

I knew which transmission I was looking for and I had the codes for that particular trans so I looked on eBay until I saw one come up and it was from a JDM importer in Canada, I would recommend finding out which transmission code and search for it on eBay, there are a lot of good deals through importers there!

Regarding the rear triangle for the corner glass, I have not found any, I have some sources I have yet to check with however these parts are getting so hard to find, I have been very fortunate to get most parts neew for my car but there are a few parts I am still searching for. I wont forget that you are looking for these parts!

These guys may be able to track you down a VF15 if that is the route you decide.

Hi everyone, well I finally have an update, I have the front Sub frame painted and fitted to the car. I have to get a steering rack from a 05-07 Impreza STI and also need to modify a intermediate steering shaft to fit between the column and the rack as I have been told these are different spline on the Legacy Column compared to the Impreza. The front Bar set up is great, there are four positions on the ARB Arms to Adjust the bar from a soft to firm position (the Softest setting being the hole furthest away from the bar at the end of the arm which is where there is the most leverage action on the bar) also the splined bar itself can be easily changed.
Here are a few photos of the Subframe in place
