that would be cool 8) .

I saw another white Turbo Legacy parked on the corner of 42nd and 7th today. Crazy. I thought about leaving a note to check out the forums here but he was gone before I had some free time.

My car is definately a half breed of some sort. Maybe it was the first car in 92 or something and they didn't have all the new parts ready or something. I don't know, that's my theory.

wow, there must be some kind of magnetic attraction to our little corner here

you've got the 92 bumper. Hence your car being a '92.

the 93 bumper has fog lamp holes in it.

One more in the BC crowd of WA. You guys know there is a rallycross this weekend in oregon, right?

I don't see any other turbo legacy with this bumper, you can even see the bumper with fog lights cut outs on the 92 brochure http://www.legacycentral.org/library/92 ... ochure.htm. It might have just been in a wreck or something and they couldn't find a turbo bumper. I went up to the junkyard and found one, and it was cheap, and white. It's going on once I get finished touching up the paint  .

I know I probably won't make it to the rallycross, car is too new for me. That's a long trip to spectate. Unless it's a really cool to spectate..... and there's beer.

my dad's car is grey. he just sent it to the body shop about a month ago. he had it repainted the same color but it looks good.
He just opened a shop specializing in repairing subarus, but ever since he built his car he acts like he was bit by the performance bug. anyway the shop adress is 13303 Pacific Ave. Tacoma, WA. right across the street from marketplace

OOOOOOOhhh.. i know that joint. That's Pacific Auto Imports, right? I used to take my car there before i learned how to work on it.

Funny.

yep. my dad just bought the business from the guy that owned it and now it is steve's pacific imort auto. If you drive by usually you will be able to see his car parked out front right in front of the door but since we have been moving he has been driving his truck (we are moving next door). but he really wants to get into performance tuning subarus so in maybe a year or so when things get settled here he will make it a performance tuning place for subarus too. i'm sure he will do some performance parts now but it will officially become part of the things we do later.

:D

This is what I what I started with. Pretty messed up paint, but straight. There really is no excuse for unpainted or beat-up body work-- 4 little rattle cans covered the whole thing, $30. In a week or two after the paint fully hardens and I wet sand and polish it I'll throw up a few close-up pics.

I document almost everything with my digital camera out of habit now. You guys seem fairly interested, so here's some more.

ran up to snoqualmie today, still a little snow up there.

And here's the boost gauge in the glove box. Just testing the placement for now, I like being able to close the glove box and not see it. I don't want to get mezmerized by the boost gauge, I'm sure it would lead to me turning up the boost on a car that I still don't know a whole lot about  .

Just noticed someone talking about their dad's turbo getting painted. I want to get my turbo painted, especially after I get a new hood and bumper. I have no clue about painting though, what are ballparks figures for paint jobs for this car? Does it matter what color? Are different colors going to look better with a cheap paint job? Any suggestions? Body color trim? Mirrors? Side Strips?
Thanks
Micum

Cheap paint job... don't bother. I'm serious, it will look worse than before in a short period of time. You want a place that will fix all dents, then do the base coat and clear coats separately - then wetsand the clear coat and buff it. Painting it right isn't cheap. I can check for you, but you would be looking at 2-3 grand. Reds and blacks are the most expensive, then it goes down from there.

Yeah....it's not cheap.

Body work is not cheap, plus it depends if you want the trim painted same color. If so, that will save money.

The more work you can do yourself the better. I will probably at some point and time get the car repainted. When I do I will do as much disassembly on parts/trim and prep work I can myself.

estimates for just to spray the bumper were around $200. i'm sure maaco or something could do it cheaper.

color change is a pain and very pricey to do right, don't bother.

So a good paint job in a different color than my battleship grey, would be a lot more expensive than a good paint job in the same color as I have now? How much a price difference are we talking? I have a sorta dark grey 91 turbo...What about if I got a really similar color? Lets say I wanted more of a silver? Or a really dark blackish grey, maybe metallic? Or just a metallic version of the current paint color, battleship grey?
And last, but not least, what is this strange maaco place I hear of?? Excuse me, But I is just a poor hick from the sticks, we no have such sophisticed paint shops??? Sorry...joke? Is this some sort of chain cheap paint shop? Any comments on them? Are their any in New England? Damn I ask a lot of questions...what a pain.
Much THanks,
Micum

Forget you ever heard the name Maaco. They were the kind of people I was referring to as "avoid material", you'll get half-a**ed at best. If you try to get them to do it right, they'll end up charging you $12,000 cuz doing it right costs extra. If you are trying to sell the car, go for it cuz it'll look good for at least 3 months.

Changing the body color of your car is not really that big of a pain. That said, what is a big pain is matching all the little pieces of trim, like say in-between the door and front fender where paint doesn't reach normally. Then you have all of your door-jambs, under the hood, around the engine bay, behind the bumpers and a thousand other little places that would require a complete disassembly of the car to get to. So if you go with a slightly lighter or darker color, it shouldn't be a problem (depending on how much difference you can stand. And going with more metallic in a similar color isn't a problem at all. If you do that, places like under your hood and around the engine bay will look "flat", as if that matters.

I think I could live with some of that, under the hood being the old color, I'm getting a new hood, so it wouldn't be that difficult to just paint it before its put on I imagine, but I wouldn't really care i guess, I would just want a nice even line probably between the inside/old paint and outside/new paint. I could go for a metallic dark dark blackish grey, my first car, an 84 camaro was that. Or a silvery metallic grey. This is really going to take a chunk out of my mod budget. Is anyone on here from New England, northern New england?
Thanks
Micum
