C I can tell that u guys r not at ur full boost setting let me tell u this that factory turbo can spool up very high i mean high. how can i tell that u guys r not boosting very high like me CUZ WE GOT 2 FULE CUTs. the first one is the little black box beside the factory boost controler its good till u hit 18psi of long but not very hard boost. THEN U GOT MY BOOST where 21psi comes on as soon as the gas goes down & I MEAN HARD 21psi. the second fule cut is in the air meter i had to get a turbo smart FCD 150cash canadian cuz some guy did not no how to work it good deal. I AM tell u guys put a down pipe 4 all the work i did i would just do this one thing & a intercooler. I AM GOING TO POST MY PIC of my down pipe so i can show u guys HOW CRAZY I AM.

The ECU cuts fuel if the MAF sensor reads too high? Is this a secondary overboost cut or is it just because the MAF sensor's range is exceeded?
In any case, that kind of fuel cut can't be dealt with just using a fuel cut defender; you simply have to have an aftermarket EFI system anyway. You can use the stock ECU beyond the MAP-based fuel cut.

Are you telling us that you're running 21psi off the stock turbo? Have you monitored egts/a-f/or injector duty cycles at this boost level?

I've seen 22 from my stock turbo, so its at least possible. Isnt't the little thing waaayy out of its efficiency range long before 20psi??

by boostjunkie
Yes it is. I would imagine that you're seeing less CFM at 21psi than when you're running the turbo at 12psi!!! You're still making the boost, but nowhere near the power . . . just a lot of hot air.

Hot air is less dense so you can get high pressure and less cfm.
My GL-10 had a MAF based fuel cut, if you pulled in too much air...

efficiency range i think is ok cuz it will go higher then 21psi. boostjunkie i dont no it seems fine & it will go higher .i have monitored everything everything is in good order & it is the factory turbo. i think everyones set up is diffrent cuz i got a huge intercooler and the tubes r huge to. so i have lots of volume in my tubes & cooler. when i put my factory turbo on i dont use no blow of valve when i put the t-bird turbo on the front i have to let some air out cuz there is to much boost. everyones car is diffrent

no nico. bad nico. you are way of out air at 21 psi with the stock turbo. Hell, your just pushing hot (reletively) air after 15psi.
Oh, it's POSSIBLE to push these boost levels, sure. But it's also POSSIBLE to stab yourself in the eye with a fork. Its not something you want to do!

Do you guys know how to read efficiency maps? If you do, you should read that site from top to bottom. If not, read it three times.

don't waste your time on a wrx turbo! in Australia we have a VF12 on our rs's boost comes on about 3000rpm and pulls really hard all the way to redline, in fact we get rid of these to get BIGGER ones! if going a bigger turbo get a TD05 from a 94 wrx or a VF22,23 or 24, these make the car very streetable with HUGE top end. bear in mind this is on a 2ltr intercooled version of your cars.

OK I DONT UNDER STAND ALL UR TURBO STUFF. but when i put a bigger turbo on it to much lag and it good 4 top end & BOOST comes on to late maybe it the legacy gear box. but i am putting a wrx one in & i heard there a little bitter longer so may be i will need a bigger turbo. BUT ONE THING DOES ANY ONE HAVE A DOWN PIPE LIKE THIS CUZ IF U DO U NO WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT.

I think Nico likes downpipes. For some reason, almost every post he makes always drums back to that. hmm

NICO if you change the turbo I would suggest getting a new custom down pipe for it anyway.

you need to have it hosted on a website and then can link to it in the thread.

rsstiboy, I have come to think that our VF11 is much smaller than your VF12. How does the TD04 compare to the VF12? I think it might be worth it for our cars. Not that I would recomend it, if I had the money I'd be looking at VF22-23.

A 5" Downpipe? You are kidding me!
NICO: Send me the picture via email. Send me any other pictures you may have of your car. I'll host them on my site for a few weeks.
My email address is..

Remove the 'Remove's of course.
My Legacy is out of order currently. The water pump froze up, which overheated the car and destroyed the timing belt and 2 idler pulleys and a tensioner. It is a mess. More on that later. I do have a lightly used WRX turbo that I picked up off eBay. I'll be installing it in the next few months and posting a walkthrough/faq.
mean legacy turbo

bringin a thread back from the dead...
what turbo is on a 86 xt turbo and also on european wrx's? Thats crazy...
I could probably find me one if this is true. Does it have the 90 inlet on the compressor we need?
Thanks

Thanks for bringing this back. A lot of good information I haven't seen before. I am thinking of doing that turbo t-bird upgrade, or a vf-22. Sorry I don't have any answers for you though.
...If you ever play Tokyo Extreme Racer 3 for the PS2, you can get a XT4 turbo. With the body kits you can put on it, WOW, it looks so good. I never would have thought. Now I want an XT turbo. Got to get an EJ22T in there though.
