Usually a leaking head gasket wont leak to the outside. It will be more of a small spot where exhaust pushes the coolant on the power stroke and coolant is sucked into the combustion chamber on the intake stroke. The legacy I mentioned we plan to dump currently only over heats after stressing it for 30 seconds or more. If you drive around like a grandma its fine.

Oh crap.... That might explain why I sometimes smell the oh-so-sweet smell of coolant after flogging the car.

Does the pull the rad cap and look for bubbles trick work on a turbo? I really hope it does and I don't see anything when I check tomorrow.

:( this sounds like my car. ONly time this doesnt happen is when I leave the heat on and dont let the revs drop for more thana min or two :( Cripes. What is a more specific way to tell if it's the head gaskets?

Have your coolant "sniffed" or tested for hydrocarbons from exhaust... If there are hydrocarbons present, that means exhaust fumes are leaking into your coolant, and about the only way for that to happen is a blown headgasket...

That's my mission for tomorrow then. An upside would be that I can get all those other seals and whatnot replaced.

Sounds technical, I think I'll just baby it until I can get a breaker bar to replace the water pump then see if that doesn't fix it. If it doesn't I'm going to replace them. Then if that doesn't fix it, I don't know what will :\

Well I was trying to take off the timing belt cover and part of the plastic one of the bolts on the passangerside of the cover cracked, right where the nut is supposed to be, so the nut was free to move with the bolt. I tried pressing the cracked pieces together but still didn't want to work correctly. So I bent the cover up a lil bit after i got te other two bolts off, it snapped, and now I've got a lil piece of the outer cover stuck on to the inner cover. Is there anything I should do whenI go to put the cover back together? I'm thinking duct tape until I can go get both piece from the junk yard or whatever. Anyone have any other ideas?
