I got a Kenwood something or other 4 yrs ago for $160 and it still works well. Doesn't have one of those annoying flip faces with the ricer animation either.

You could do this blocking plate here:Image

I think that's my old JVC in the picture, but it looks about the same. The blanking plate is just an 'H' shaped piece of polystyrene painted and installs with the stock screws hidden under the trim. Picked it up at some arts and crafts store.

Hmmm, are you missing your flip open tray that's in the dash? When you put in an after market stereo you'll end up with .5 din that needs filled in. I'm getting a little pocket from Circuit City for $12.99. If a 1.5 din flip face pocket shows up later I might snag that though.

I ordered the 1.5 DIN pocket new for like $20. It fits perfectly and adds some much needed storage to the dash. I posted the part number in a thread about it.

Since my stereo Headunit includes an equalizer I just turfed my ashtray and made the opening a full 3 DIN.

Sweet! I want to get an EQ too eventually. I have a love for em' ( car and home audio) that dates back to Risky Bussiness! Plus back in the day you needed them just to get decent sound out of a cassete deck. Growing up the sweet systems always had an EQ. Plus there's something about those flashing lights, ya know?

That looks really cool, QuickDrive! Did you have to do anything special to mount the pocket?

I have a 1/2 DIN EQ that fits where my ashtray used to go.

Vrg3, nothing special really, well besides cutting the bottoms horizontal piece of plastic that makes the opening only 2.5 DIN.

I used the stock bracket that holds the original radio and pocket together to hold all 3 peices. I think I might've flipped the pocket upside down though...

Yup! Mine's 4-yr old bottom Kenwood. I just asked for something that would last more than the few years my others made it. So far he's right.

Matt - I have the factory CD deal. My whole dash is filled up, no slots left.

Not sure what I am going to do with all of the space, lol.

Does yours still work with burned CD's? Mine only lasts about 45 minutes, 30, on a hot day, and then it's like I get a wierd crackling from the burned cd's which get progressivly worse. until it just stops finally. Purchased cd's work fine though.

No mine has no problem. Skips easier over bumps than with bought CD's which is understandable. I made a 3-disc soundtrack to my first novel and run it through without any problem. Mine skips easily in the winter until it warms up and then it takes a lot to get it to skip. Picks up scratches easier than my home stereo, though.

14 hours left! I hope it clears $2000 (my reserve). Anything over $2100 would be GGGGGRRRAAAAVVVVVVYYYYYYY.

$2100 gets me the car, and my C.E.S exhaust.

Car will be out of the shop monday (needed other things. Waterpump, timing belt, and there was a blown seal. Power steering rack was leaking, and a few other things).

My dad is going to get it registered on monday or tuesday for me while I am taking my exams, and i'll be home on Tuesday to install the new headunit and be on the road!

Let me know if you wanna meet up Jason.

Matt - Vacation eh? Awesome! Go anywhere fun? I'm down for any weeknight meet as long as my work schedule allows.
