It was a paraphrased quote from, I think, the movie 'Three O' Clock High', but it may be from something else. Its a scene where the dork main character gets sent to detention and sits next to a punk who's carving into the desk top with a knife.

Oh wait, was that "Some kind of wonderful"? The Artsy kid (Eric Stoltz, I think) gets a date with the 'poor' rich chic ( girl from Howard the duck) and ends up with the hottie blond drummer girl in the end? Funny movie.evolutionmovement wrote:It was a paraphrased quote from, I think, the movie 'Three O' Clock High', but it may be from something else. He pulled the fire alarm to get detention with the "poor" rich girl and it ends up she isn't even in the detention with all the roughiens...

I love Depeche Mode, always have. I have a lot of their albums. Back in the day I was a huge fan of all the alternative stuff. The Cure, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, Joy Division, New Order, Bauhaus (one of the best bands ever!), Love and Rockets, Peter Murphy, Eraser Head, The list could go on and on.....THAWA wrote:I dsont wanna sound like a queer or nothin but I think depeche mode is a really cool bandscottzg wrote:Big fan of depeche mode!
I can't really contribute to this thread very well because I'm not ashamed of anything I listen to. I like all kinds of music and have a huge variety in my collection. Just the other day I listened to Duran Duran's Rio, followed by Primus's Brown album, then NIN's The Downward Spiral, Then Outkast's Stankonia followed by The Cures Head on a Door.
I also don't let artists sexual orientation determan my music at all. I have a few gay friends and it doesn't bother me really. I don't like it in your face, out in the open, flamin' gay but I don't like that from straight couples either. What people do in their bedroom is their bussiness IMO. I'm confident enough in my sexuality to not be threatened by others preferences. I do draw the line with freaky ass stuff like Tools bass player was doing though. That's just sick. I still listen to Tool though.....

I mean how many metal heads were into Judas Priest? All those Homophobic "tough" guys worshipping a gay guy. Haha, it makes me laugh.
Oh, just so you guys know, most of Depeche Mode is straight. David Gahan (the lead singer) is married and has kids, Martin Gore is married too AFAIK. IIRC, Andrew Fletcher (the main keyboard player) was the only gay member.
My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult rules Steve!

Yeah, I guess I really don't care what music people like. I definetly don't care or really even want to know about sexual orientation. These days, mainstream music is more about image than music.
I never really got into Depeche Mode but they had some songs that were cool. My earlier statement about rap and hip hop was probably close minded dribble. I think I'd like hip hop more if they didn't use other artist's melodies in their work. It bums me out when I start to get into something then I realize I've heard it before. That goes for Fred Durst with his Who cover, and a few others recently as well. It seems like some people can't come up with their own stuff so they do covers. What a cop out.
I'd be interested in knowing what rap/hip hop artists know music in the sense of to what degree do they automate the recording process.

I can't believe all those idiot metal heads couldn't figure out Rob Halford was gay. Did they listen to the lyrics? And look at the guy - he's a fetish club standard.
Most rap lacks all creativity and is populated by talentless losers. Its not necessarily the fault of the genre, its the record companies stress on crap.
DJ Shadow is samplings, but he takes pretty obscure stuff and totally changes it around. I'm not big into DJ music, but I'm a big fan of his. I stole the title Midnight in a Perfect World from a song of his the mood of which is absolutely perfect for the screenplay. Would make an awesome trailer to scenes from the movie overlaying Dante driving along a busy beach in the Legacy. The only words would be at the end with Femme standing over the white trash guy form the white trash's POV looking up the shotgun "If white trash gets killed in the forest and nobody's around to hear, do they make a sound?"

Kid Rock. I hate to admit it, but his songs are catchy and have a good beat. Biggest fucking redneck there is, but cool songs (at least most of them). Cowboy is just a cool song. "I can smell a pig from a mile away!"
Dynamite Hack's cover of EazyE's "Boyz in the hood" is also pretty catchy. I found myself singing that in the shower the other day. Apparently, I know all of the words.

Hey man, I happened to have been one of those metalheads you speak so lowly of. You know long hair, jean jacket with a patch on the back, biker boots etc. I had no idea he was gay. I really only liked "you got another thing coming" and I didn't know all of the lyrics. Back then I was like 13 or something and I never thought of gayness much. I wouldn't have known a gay unless they were proclaiming to be gay or everyone knew. I always just thought the leather was a motorcycle thing. Where I come from (hickville) there's no such thing as a fetish club. I loved metal in any form and I still like metal just not that era of metal. I didn't really think about whether or not someone was gay cuz I couldn't care less.I can't believe all those idiot metal heads couldn't figure out Rob Halford was gay. Did they listen to the lyrics? No insult intended - I used to go to death metal shows all the time. I was making fun of all those clowns who loved Priest and then changed their mind and felt betryed somehow when he came out - talk about homophobic did they think it meant they were gay just because they listened to the music? Kind of sad to be that insecure. I was never a fan of them because the music just wasn't my thing, but the thought that he wasn't gay never crossed my mind. I suppose living just north of Boston I was more familiar with fetish stuff and all that. Plus I've always found the weird stuff people are into to be a source of interest and amusement so I'm more familiar than most.

An exerpt from my second novel:
He’s singing ‘Material Girl’ out loud with the stereo and throws out a pear core as he pulls up in front of a brown house. The big door shuts with a thunk unlike the clang it made when he found it. He smiles and admires the paint again. The incorrect blue stripes look great on the white car - the very same one Lucinda had when they were together. Her first car. He had tracked it down and restored it better than new with the original 305 cu. in. engine enlarged to 350 with Fuel Injection, electronic ignition, and a true crossover dual exhaust system.
