New Legacy GT Turbo! What do y'all think?

It's kinda strange how everyone's waiting for a Legacy STi as there isn't one available anywhere in the world right now

I mean, the Legacy turbo sold like crap so they denied us turbo cars for years here in America. As cool as it would be to have a Legacy STi, it seems a little presumptious to assume it's just a matter of time before we get one here.

Did anyone get a chance to read the Nabisco OT thread where a 16-year-old kid was asking if anyone wanted parts off his totalled STi? His parents bought him the car for his 16th birthday, and one day as he was leaving school, he got on it too hard and steered it into a ditch or guardrail or something like that.

I read the thread with my jaw on the floor. What stupid-ass parents would buy their 16-year-old son a 300-hp, $32,000 car? It made me happy with my grandparents that they made me work to buy a (then) 9-year-old $4000 car with 130hp.

I do pretty much agree with you, but there have been sti versions of legacy's right, s401 and all that stuff, or were those something else. With the recent success of the wrx and wrx sti, I would say our chances of getting an sti legacy are greater. Especially if the gt sells well.

The thing is though, they can afford to and want to buy their son that car. Are you telling me that if you were 16, and your parents offered you any car you an sti, you would say no? Sure right now you might, hell I would aswell, but when I was 16 I'd take it in a heartbeat. Not saying what your gparents did was wrong, in fact I think it was the right thing to do. There's no reason most people should have that fast of a car (myself included), let alone someone without any real road driving experience.

I think it was irresponsible of that kid's parents to buy him that car without teaching him to drive. And I'm being charitable by just calling it "irresponsible."

Yes, there have been STi versions of Legacy's in the past, but they have been limited to Japan IIRC...the S401. I just find it humorous that all these "newbies" are just chomping at the bit for a Legacy STi when for years no one gave a shit about Subarus, let alone Legacys.

At the very least they should've sent him to several driving schools (real ones, not that crap the state contracts). That's the only thing I would do for my kid - the car they need to buy. And as for the other question - no I wouldn't have wanted an STI at 16, I was always mature enough to understand my lack of control (and therefore keep it under control). Very few cars I looked at had any balls, but I knew that would help me learn to drive better. I always thought the parents who bought their kids new 5.0s and Firebirds and such were retards. That's why some people should have their money taken from them as they don't do anything with it anyway. That way they can support the strong and intelligent who could best use that money. Hell, even throwing into social service programs would be a much better thing. The state should supply these people with food, shelter, health care and a guaranteed monotonous job where they could produce prodigious amounts of cheap consumer goods Americans demand while they simultaneously question where the manufacturing went. Some people are too dumb and unwilling to take care of themselves, so in turn for state support, they should have to work shit jobs. With no stress, they'd be happier than they are now.

I drove the 2.5 n/a. It was pretty peppy. They didn't have any GT's. The guy was goin to call me back when they get some.

I will say it's funny when the a/c in my 14 year old car works better then a new car.

When I was 17, my dad offered me to go out and get any car I wanted (within reason) and he would buy it for me (he also knew I was level-headed). Searched for a practical car -- could fit 6 people but not a full-size car, all heavy duty equipment (like a police car or taxi), 6 cylinder, 4 speed, full gauge insturmentation. I couldn't find the car I wanted so I kept the car my dad had given me a year earlier -- a 40 hp VW Bug.

I'm really glad it didn't have more hp -- it was plenty powerful for me when I learned to drive stick on hills that looked like San Francisco. But after much reading, studying, and practice, I learned on it how to heel-and-toe, clutchless shifting without any gear grinding, the effects that tire sizes and composition, sway bars, and shocks had on handling, the value of Europoean quartz-halogen lighting, how to modify just about everything on the car, and finally, learned how to blueprint a racing engine for it.

Because it was so underpowered, it taught me safe driving habits, and control of the car such as placing any tire on the car within an inch or two of where you wanted it whether at low speed or highway speeds. And developing that kind of control of the car came in handy one night when I was deep in thought about something for a few seconds and found myself trying to negotiate a blind curve at night three feet from the edge of a 70 foot cliff with my swing-axle Bug squealing around the curve on three tires. (Boy was my heart pounding!)

Then I think of a man living a mile away from me who bought his son a new, high-powered Mustang (don't recall which one it was) when his son was 15 as well as many other luxuries that most adults didn't have. The son was a thankless kid and wrecked the car within the year.

So for me, too, I would have wanted an STi at 16 but I know I would not have gotten it -- the 40 hp VW kept me humble and safe . . and alive.

Sorry for the ramble. Getting back to the thread, I'm still waiting for the Legacy GT to come in to test drive it. And if a Legacy STi were available, yeah, I would like to get it!

One thing I do have to criticize on the new Legacy: if I got the wagon, those orange turn signals in the rear taillights hafta go. They ruin the whole rear end IMO. I'd get a set of JDM taillights (taillights, vrg3, taillights

) in place of those. Other than that, the styling is absolutely perfect.

Totally. . . hell, I'd have a set at home WAITING to be put on there before I'd even get the car.

They're finally at my local dealerships! I looked at a white Sedan 5mt and a blue wagon 5eat. They are sweet looking, especially the white sedan, that I want oh so badly. I didn't get to do a test drive though.

I just had the chance to sit in one yesterday and I have to say I'm even more impressed than I thought I could be. This will definitely be my next car. Whether that's a month from now or three years from now, it'll definitely be mine. The fit and finish is exceptional. The sunroof is AWESOME. Everything is above and beyond any other Subaru in the past.

Finally the GTs came in. I test-drove both the auto and stick. The 5 spd is smooth! What a beautiful car! It handles the hp & tq so well that I'd prefer it had more of both, like the STi engine in it!

The auto was a little disappointing. From a stop I quickly depressed the pedal 2/3 way down and the car just sat there before the power kicked in. And the steering is heavier than the 5 spd for some reason. Maybe it was disappointing because the 5 spd was so good.

Just my opinions on the cars I test drove.

One more thing about the 5 spd. For me, the accelerator and brake pedal were ideally placed for heel-and-toe operation. Made me grin big.

One more thing about the auto trans: In the "manual" mode, it took a while for the tranny to shift so I would imagine it would be less than optimum pleasure in performance driving.

Ok, here is even more reason to go drive the new 2.5 GT- SOA is offering a $25 prepaid visa for you to go test drive one. The form can be found there. (as if I needed another reason)

SO, I went to the dealer, found a nice blue with leather interior 5-spd, and took it out. I was very impressed.

They should have offered a turbo since the 94's if you ask me ( but no one ever did)

It seemed to have better lower end pull ( like our old turbo's)

And I sent off the card saying I had done the drive.
So now SOA just funded another $25 in parts for my old car ( until I can afford a new one)

And this one had an msrp of 29,000

Ahhh, just a few more pennies

I got that email for the $25 Legacy test drive, and what's ironically funny, I got a flier in my mail to test drive a new Saab 9-2X and get $30 for that

you know what the worst part of this whole rebadging thing is? It's not the fact that it's a subaru with a new fascia, it's not the fact that gm is killing our uniqueness, not's not even the fact that neither saab owners nor subaru owners like the saabaru. It's that the saab website has a better AWD demo than the subaru site. WTF!

They're TV commercials are nearly the same as the WRX, too. The worst is that the new Subaru flagship coming up will be shared with the bastard Saab. After Subaru did all the work on developing someting that doesn't suck, Saab will take it and likely make it better looking if the recent Subaru show cars are any indication.

While I don't like the fact that GM is raiding Subaru's parts bin/lineup, I do think the Saabaru is a good looking car. Possibly even better looking than the Impreza (which isn't very hard

) I don't condone Subaru's creation of a 7 seater, but who can blame them.
