Start your own shop then. Put all on notice and give them a run for their money.

^^ sounds like a good idea. You could start small, put an ad in the paper or something about doing routine maintanance. Setting up derailers and trueing rims or something. Then let it grow. :)

In the same boat here, I'm a cashier at sears, in the tool department. I make $7.70/hour(after 1.6 years). Our manager hired a "tool associate"(person who's supposed to have at least minor knowledge of tools) they start at $8.50/hr i think. He's been employed for about 3 months, still hasnt learned how to work registers, but pretends to, so tends to fuck up transactions, still knows NOTHING about tools, and isnt even smart enough to read off the box, after being told to, tells customers over the telephone that we have things that we in fact do not, and cannot locate merchandise that is asked for often. He cannot be left alone in the department, because he screws things up. Whenever I work with him, i'm forced to do both of our jobs, because he cant even work a register. Every other person in our department has the same feelings as I do about him. I've brought it up with management, and the manger accused me of wanting him gone so I could steal his job. I took matters into my own hands by taking care of his job when customers around, and then lecturing him when there's nobody around. It at least makes me feel better about it. lol Thank god i'm leaving

I think you should just mind your own until he screws up and then use that opportunity to not support his continued employment.

No, see, that would put customers at risk and make more work for me in the long run.

He finally came around. I think he was being a slacker dip-shit because of personal issues.

He turned out to be gay, and immediately after he informed Zach and myself, productivity wen't up. He can do whomever or whatever he want's in his off-time, as long as he gets his shit done in the shop and he doesn't hit on me, then everything is fine.

The telephone bandit, however, hasn't gotten any better. He called the other day wanting me to explain what tool to use, how to use it, and where he'd find it, for a repair that he's never done. What the fuck? I told him that I didn't have time to help him, that I had paperwork and repairs of my own to do.

That afternoon I spoke with my general bike manager (the organizer for all the bike shops in the company) about it. Flat out, I said, "He's wasting my time, your time, and the companies money. I'm not paid to babysit on the phone, and he's not paid to dick around with the health of customers." He saw where I was coming from, and hopefully this time it'll be taken care of.

206er - Get a job at a generic store. One that doesn't sell JUST bikes. They will hire you flat out, as mechanics (at least here) are scarce. Then, use that as a resume booster.

I am fairly confident that I could get a job at a shop almost anywhere in the country as a mechanic. I've got 3 years of shop time experience, I've raced XC and DH, and I can build a really nice wheel :).
