replace your knock sensor first, trust me.

then try to rewire it.

I'm with Aaron. The wire that typically gets damaged is the one attached to the sensor.

I wired in one from a WRX. Works just fine. Just needed to tie the shielding from connector and the sensor in just right.

Anyone know if you can order a complete replacement for the knock sensor wire with the harness from Subaru?

If not, do the newer Subaru cars have the same wiring harness for the knock sensor as the MY 90 to 94?

I just tried to replace my knock sensor, but when I moved the wire around it started cracking all over. I want to either replace the wire completely, or if I can find a wire from another newer Subaru I'll try splicing it.

What I did was buy from a junk yard, the ECU side of the connector where it plugs into the knock sensor with about 6" of wire and spliced. That was the part of my wire that was exposed. A reminder, do not over tighten the knock sensor bolt, 15ft. lbs is plenty. Make sure the mating surface with the block is spotless.

ok, sounds like a reasonable solution. Does anyone if I can harvest one of these knock sensor wires from a newer Subaru vehicle. I'd like to pull one from a newer car. I'd imagine that most of our MY cars are having problems with their knock sensor wires deteriorating, and I don't see the point in installing another 17 year old wire in my baby.

hey guys, bringing this thread back to life... My situation sounds a little different then most here but with the same problem. When i got the car, the knock sensor was unplugged, with no problems, then i plugged it in, and once i hit boost (around 3k), it just started running like crap almost as if the fuel pump was going out. So i unplugged it, and it ran fine, then it started doing the same thing even with the knock sensor unplugged. Now it just kinda does it whenever it wants, it ALWAYS does it when its plugged in, and only sometimes does it when its not plugged in. So i was told to rewire from the ECU to the connector for the knock sensor itself. The car has a PP6 ECU. So does anyone know where i can buy some of this shielded wire, or should i just go get some from an NA at the junkyard? Napa and autozone had no idea what i was talking about when i asked for shielded wire.... thanks for any help

Did you try replacing the knock sensor though?

Some online electrical suppliers have it. Or you could grab a harness out a j/y car. Probably easier and cheaper. There're a few shielded wires in there.
