that's what I was suggesting, swap in my magnecores and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't you wont have to waste money on new wires.

Yup... turned out to be a plug wire.

I removed mine and installed hardy's. I tried to install the wire to Cyl. #2 and it just wouldnt go on. After closer inspection i realized that the end of the plug wire had detatched from the wire itself and was stuck to the plug. We removed it and installed Hardy's wires. I took the car for a test drive and the problem still existed :( So i went and got new wires from the store (had to, no way I could re-use the damaged wire).

So after installing the new wires, i had to take off. The car still drove like crap. I tried resetting the ECU to no avail but after driving it for a while the problem went away :)

Now the car drives like a madman once again :)

That's great news!

Did you ever pull the plugs to check them?

If you did you probably noticed the #2 plug was fouled. After replacing the faulty wire it started getting spark and cleaned itself, then stated working properly again.

Congrats and good job.

Glad to hear you fixed it Brian. OH, and thanks for stopping by and giving us a hand. We successfully pulled the trany out after Hardy left as well.

I havent pulled the plugs. I was at Ryans House working on the curbside, and it was getting dark. When my garage is cleared I will do a thourough checkup and everything.

Ryan, glad to hear the tranny is out. Did you guys find a Tranny jack? I might be able to get one and bring it by tomorrow if you need one.

I found another thing that creates the bucking and backfiring hesitation. If the crank sensor gets wet, it wont get a clear reading and the ecu retards the timing intermittently as the water swirls around the lens. But this will go away as the water evaporates.

No tranny jack, just a floorjack. That 4EAT is a MOTHER. A pregnant mother giving birth to a rhino. It's heavy. :)

We've had some problems with 3 bolts on the back of the flex plate. We got 5 out no problem, but the other three are so well lodged in there that we broke one socket, and started rounding the inside corners of two others. We finally got an impact driver (no good), and an impact gun (also no good, 120 psi tank). I've since resorted to grinding the heads off. I don't need those bolts anway. Once the heads are off and the flexplate is off, pulllng the threads out shouldn't be too much of a chore.

We were starting to round the bolts Hardy :)

We took a chisel to the heads as well, and even making indentions in the heads and hammering with a small sledge, they wouldn't budge. That was all after the impact stuff. If I would have done the grinder first i would have saved myself hours. :)

In the rain, my knock sensor get's wet and retards timing to the stone age. Once it get's warmed up, it's all fine again. Sucks though.

All the more motivation for going FMIC. I can put that oh-so-useful diverter back on the car to protect some electronics from undue exposure to the elements.
